On route to Chace Farm Hospital - 40 limit doing estimated 45/47 on clock keeping up with flow of traffic - Surely that isn't enough to warrant a slap on the wrist let alone points / fine !!!!!!!!
I thought the cars speedos over stated speed by 10 % anyway, which would bring my ACTUAL speed down to nearer 41/42

That's IF your speedo overreads. They are usually designed to overread by a factor UP to 10% or so. Some are accurate to 1%, just depends on the error margin the manufacturer have confidence to implement.
45 in a 40 is a bit tough though. Surely the camera took piccies of all the cars if you were following the flow of traffic?

The traffic was a bit thin on the ground TBH. I guess the car in front was a good 30 meters off. The only hope is that a Land Rover did overtake me a couple of seconds after the second flash so maybe it was him that was caught not me ?? Have to wait I guess. Two weeks or thereabouts isn't it. I'll let you know if I do get shafted. Have to say it seems a bit bloody keen though doing for 45 in a 40. If they are getting that fine in margins I reckon it'll have the reverse effect on safety that is hoped for. If you have to keep you eyes glued to the speedo "just in case" I think we'll see more shunts.

Only 1 in 10 (so I read b4 anyone flames me for talking poo ) have film in them so hope you have got away with this.
Alternatively always make sure you are doing 170mph+ so they don't register you, although might be a bit dangerous in a 40 zone

Heh - Cheers Rob, I saw that program. Thought it was interesting that they tested a car at around 130 which got zapped then jumped to 170 which didn't.!!! Me wonders if the cut-off was 131mph which is easily achievable in a scoob ! (Allegedly up to 155 I hear)
You still thinking 'bout Florida ??

Hi Jods, nah Florida is out of the question for sometime m8 unfortunately. I think you will find the cut off point was 170mph anything above that wont register. However even on my motorbike its not something I want to put to the test, the camera flashing that is

When working at Siemens Traffic Controls a few years back (not for the speed camera division!), a senior traffic engineer told me that the cameras flash twice if they have film in and once if not. This may or may not have changed in the last 8 years though.

Thats how I understood it. TurboKitty however seems to be better informed. I'm sure in his/her friendly, cordial way will clarify how this has changed.

The Dummy GATSO
Dummy GATSO's are a great deterrant. They look just like the real thing, they flash just like the real thing. They just don't take any photos. The camera is typically the most expensive part of a gatso installation, followed by the cost of the radar unit. GATSO can supply a cheaper, self-regulating radar unit that will hook up to the flashgun and fire it when a vehicle passes the camera travelling above a set speed. The dummy radar units are much simpler, and measure speed less accurately then their full-cost counterparts. Dummy GATSO units can be set to flash either once (which gives the game away) or more likely, twice (thus mimicking perfectly a fully operational unit.)

As per what Ian says above, it is entirely possible for a Gatso to have a flash unit but no camera. Even if it does have a camera, it could be out of film. If you were travelling only slightly over the speed limit on a busy stretch of road, how many other people will it have caught before you? Remember, the lower the trigger speed set, the quicker it will run out of film.
