Unhappy

As some of you guys may be aware i'll be off to New York tomorrow and ive just realised that im scared of flying. I mean really scared, to point of not going even though ive booked my flight.I know its stupid but anything where im not in control scares the hell out of me, so i was wondering if any of you guys/gals out there could put my mind at rest and calm me down a little.

When i was younger i loved it but now im a little older and with all this 911 stuff i get quite nervous. Also its the thought of flying over the Atlantic with all that water underneath and just the vastness of it all. Hellllppppppppp!!!!!!

Only joking. It'll be fine. Statisticaly it is safer than driving and crossing the road and you do that every day.

Security is soo tight now that you have nothing to worry about.

Have a great trip.

I luv fying personally. Check in early and get yourself a nice window seat and enjoy the ride. The acceleration on takeoff when those 4 Roll Royce engines kick in is brilliant.

Anyhow, as that Harry Enfield character 'Don't' once said. "It's not flying you want to be scared of. No, no, no. It's crashing! - you don't wanna do that!"

Hi mate,

you'll be fine honestly! I can't say that I can relate to your anxiety as I have always been a good flight passenger.

However, from my experiences, I can imagine that the best thing to do when approaching the flight is to break down your time in the air with various tasks to occupy these units of time.

The flight should be between 6 1/2 and 7 1/2 hours depending on wind direction, and within that time you will have a selection of films to watch (probably 2 in that time), two meals, countless drink breaks, and a before you know it with a quick snooze you'll be arriving at Kennedy airport.

If you pre-plan your flight and occupy your time the opportunity to become worried or afraid are greatly reduced.

Just enjoy your trip, NY is superb!

I'm scared sh*tless of fying and Sept 11th made it 10 times worse but I dont let it stop me going on hols etc etc. Doc gave me some low dose Diazepam tablets and it made the world of difference. Well worth it. I wouldn't consider taking them normally....

Some of guys do crack me up.

Ive heard the one about kicking donkey statistics Jerome.

Thanks Jason for that website. I will spend a bit of time having a look at that.

>>>>Anyhow, as that Harry Enfield character 'Don't' once said. "It's not flying you want to be scared of. No, no, no. It's crashing! - you don't wanna do that!" <<<<

Cheers unclebuck that makes me feel alot better

Thanks for the info and comments everyone. Im not too bad now. The comment about occupying ones time would probably work so i will do just that, with books and evo magazines. I think i will try and sleep for the majority of the journey. Niceone V-tech

I watched airport last night and felt alittle easier then switched over and saw castaway which totally cancelled out airport. hehe!!! Bloody films.

Thanks again everyone

Scrappy

PS If a plain crashes tommorrow from midday to around 7pm on its way to NY im on it just to let you all know LOL. And no parties if it does cos i'll be watching

Way I look at it - think how many thousands of flights there are worldwide every day.

Apparently, if you flew every day of your life, you'd have to live to 29000 years old before you'd crash!!!

That's quite a low statistic.

I know statistics are not everything, but it helped me.......

Have a drink, and relax.

Get hold of some valium and bosch it as a last resort. the fact that you know you have it if you need it, may help.

Cool

Do what my missus does.

Get to the airport and get checked in an hour before boarding. Then sit in the bar the rest of the time and drink your favorite short non-stop until the last minute before boarding. Get on the plane before you start to appear pished. Sit down, strap yourself in and then promptly fall asleep and start snoring loudly.

Wake up a couple of hours out with a bad headache/hangover.

That is plenty to occupy your mind.

P.S. Take a big bottle of water onboard for when you do wake up.

P.S.S Probably not a good idea if you stay awake or worse, become violent when you are pished.

Missus uses this for every flight longer than a couple of hours, works for her.

Cheers

Ian

and remember that the first person at the accident is always the pilot! So he won't want to go if he doesn't think he'll make it.

Mind you I told that to nervous colleague and they found him collapsed in the loo after the aircraft took off! Left on the ground!

do you ever get on a train / bus as you can't control them either? anyway, plane is safer than these
