Cibie's
#1
I have had cibie's installed about a ago. There are fantastic. The light they provide is excellent. The beam is wide enough to help see when cornering. And by the way I use them all the time to flash people, and have not blown one bulb.

I have spent a few pounds at Scoobysport. But everything was well worth it and the service has alway's been top notch. Exhaust, Brakes, cibie's, help with my spoiler and of course cases and cases of octane booster.

GaryC i dont understand the point of your comment, are you inferring that SS have bribed him to say that? if so i could say the same about you and GGR and your recent posts on the clear indicator thread !
#5
I am sorry if my comments were construed in an offensive or 'digging' manner. They were intended to be humourous, and as no mention had been made about SS, it wasn't with any reference to them what so ever.
The clear indicator thread was infroming that I had received a newly launched product, was offering the board the chance to see photos of the new indicators, and informing where they could be purchased from, as all other suppliers still seemed to be waiting for delivery.
Chewy, Ian, I am sorry for any offense caused. I hadn't realised there was so much sensitivity around. In future I will keep humour away from the 'lighting and other electrical' forum.

Whoh!
Why are you so quick to refer to and defend SS? Is it because you think there is an issue here?
I believe all that Gary has said is what many other people have suffered.
Me included. A lot.
I've kept quiet because I wanted my car back on the road and I believed that antagonising Pete with public criticsm would not speed the process!
Personally I think it's that they can't cope with the mail order side of the business, I'm sure if you go there personally things are different, everyone speaks very highly of them and he seems like a top bloke.
But from the frozen North well, GGR seem to have mail order properly set up (yes, I've used 'em). Obviously it's not up to me to tell Pete how to run his business - his call.
It's not the time to delivery that I have a problem with - but the repeated broken promises "it's in the post" etc. - when it just simply isn't!
I've been waiting months (honest!) for a switch for my Cibies (fitted on the car a month before Christmas, everything already paid for). So there they sit, completely useless for weeks on end. Does it wind me up every time I walk up to the car? Just a bit!
Still at least I haven't any lamp life problems.
The ally bonnet was another game again . . .
The real shame is that it's not just me but my mate who owns the bodyshop who has been p***ed off (having paid for parts then not shipped out). As a Scoob owner, until recently he was a BIG fan of SS. Don't think he is now. All this has placed our 'friendship' under some considerable strain.
Now do you understand why some of us complain?
And actually I think generally we've been pretty patient - probably because of SS's support for SIDC and ScoobyNet, but surely that shouldn't make them fireproof?
just MHO

Obviously i dont have a sense of humour then, because it didnt read humorously at all. Its quite a serious allegation to go making publicly which i why i mentioned the smilies. If you are going to make a statemtn that can so easily be misconstrued as not humorous, make sure its obvious it is.

I have just been very happy with my service the quality of parts and with all of the people there. I am sorry that you have had a bad experience with them. I am just telling you that I am very happy with them. For example I was reading a post about there cibie's. It seemed that they had a problem with there bulbs or something. Well it seems that a few people did have problem's but the majority did not. My point is that when people are mad they will tend to write something bad about that company sooner then they would praise them.
I think that when you are dealing with a small company you need to be patience. I feel there parts are worth there wait. If you have a problem with SS, I would assume that pete would do what ever he could to help. You could always go to Halfords for your parts. I heard that they have plenty of stock.

Hi Paul
Lets talk about your bonnet first.
Ordered by your mate, lets not mention the name of his company for reasons below, on the 6th December. Not having done business with this company before, we asked for a cheque with order. About ten days later, no cheque or order had arrived, but we got phone calls desperate for the bonnet as the car was finished, waiting for it... "cheque will be with you tomorrow".
As it was nearly Christmas, and I did not want an owner to be without his pride and joy, I bought and paid for your bonnet, and arranged for shipment. The bonnet had a wooden crate built, to prevent damage, and this took two days. It was collected by TNT on 22/12 for next day delivery. TNT, did not deliver until after Christmas, for reasons best known to themselves.
As it stands at the moment... my calls to your "mate" regarding payment, are met with the reply that the cheque was sent "two days ago". The last time I was told this was at the start of last week. I just hope I do not need to take your mate to court to get paid. If I do, then I will reveal his company's name on here, so others may avoid him.
Switch for Cibies... I'm putting two and two together here and assuming that your lights were ordered by Hammertons of Batley. We received an order from Hammertons on Monday 13th December (dated 8th Dec), for a set of Cibies and driving light switch. On the phone, Hammertons had asked for Cibies and a d/a circuit, so this is what we had quoted on. We rang and they said they also wanted a switch, so we faxed over the invoice for this extra part and have heard nothing since. We dispatched the ordered parts two days after receiving the order (15th Dec) and they were delivered the following day.
I trust that having read the facts, you will reconsider your opinion of us.

I too have had cause to call SS regards delivery dates.
I have always been happy with and more importantly believed the response. Goods are great as well.
Being self employed I understand the difficulties of supply and demand. If SS are busy it probably means the goods he supplies are in high demand.
A major advertising plus.
Being probably one of the most cynical people on the planet and also the most tight fisted, the fact that I believe what they tell me and that I keep going back is very unusual for me.
God kit is rare to find and worth waiting for. !

I posted this message to iwoc before reading this thread on the bbs. I'll quote it here as well as it seems relevant, Sorry Pete, but pleasant phone calls and emails are not a substitute for dealing with a problem:
I'm sure there are many subscribers to the list who, like myself,
use the recommendations seen here to decide which suppliers they
should do business with. One supplier often recommended is
Scoobysport. This message details my experience with this
company, which leads me to conclude they are not a trustworthy
company to do business with.
Back in October I found myself looking for a driving light upgrade
for my MY99 and a look through the list seemed to reveal
Scoobysport as the supplier of choice, so phoned them up to place
an order...
hiccup #1: "I dont like taking credit card orders as I get charged
for it. Please send a cheque in the mail". I explained I was in
a hurry as I was going on a trip in ten days time and wanted the
lights before then, "No problem there's some sets being made up
right now so I'll put your name on one set and send them as soon
as your cheque arrives"
Normally I wouldn't touch a mail order company that wont take
credit cards with a barge pole but given the number of people
endorsing Scoobysport I went for it and posted my cheque that
afternoon.
Needless to say the lights did not arrive within the ten days, nor
had they arrived when I came back 3 weeks later.
Email and phone call follow ups gave the bland assurance that
demand was ahead of supply. So presumably the set that had "my
name on it" never existed.
Eventually the lights arrived incomplete as described from this
email sent at the time(20th November):
Pete,
I have just received my Scoobysport driving light kit but not
the
Fog Light Switch add on which I also ordered. The
instructions
also do not mention fitting this.
Also the "tywraps supplied" which are mentioned in the
instructions were not included.
I've attached a copy of my original letter which was sent with
the
order.
Please send these missing items out as soon as possible.
The blanking rivets on one of the lights were also loose and
rattling, but I've fixed this myself.
Regards,
Iain M Macleod
I then got an email reply from Pete C promising the missing bit's.
I went off on another trip and came back to find nothing in my
mail....
By this time I had fitted the lights using my own tywraps,
replaced the rattling rivets, and no sign of my missing fog light
switch kit.
Both bulbs blew in the first 6 hours of use, and had to be
replaced with locally available 55 Watt versions.
The clear stone chip protectors are such a tight fit they are
scuffing the paintwork on the spoiler.
After several phone calls and emails Pete C at Scoobysport has
promised my missing switch kit on three separate occasions. He
has promised replacement bulbs.
Nothing has ever been delivered.
The total cost of this order was £258
Scoobysport product does not perform as advertised(130 Watt bulbs
blow within hours). Scoobysport does not supply parts customers
paid for over three months ago.(My foglight switch kit)
Scoobysport does not honour it's warranty(Promised bulbs never
arrived).
I have been more than reasonable in waiting several months and
repeatedly wasting my time on emails and phone calls but have now
given up and posted this. If you plan on doing business with
Scoobysport, watch out!
The thing I dont get is how a company so incompetent can have so
many people praising it online...

The fact is that Scooby Sport are incredibly popular as they produce good
products at reasonable prices.
There has been a problem with the supply of lights, Pete is not dishonest
and I am sure that his platitudes and keeping his fingers crossed about
supplying you were meant in good faith.
My lights have not blown in 29600 miles, some of them on unforgiving
surfaces!
Pete could resort to, raising his prices dramatically to ensure that demand
is reduced, thereby addressing his supply problems!
He would rather sell good products at competitive prices.
I can be forthright when companies fail me...........
So I had better say positive things as well, if they have never let me down.
Maybe it is because I like going up there to Basildon, that I have not
complained when things can't be squeezed in at the last moment and I have
had to go back again.

Hi Iain
We did not get the new supply of bulbs in until early Jan, but you should have received these and your de-activation circuit by now. You haven't, because I had mis-filed your order together with my note that parts were still to go.
Please accept my sincere apologies. I will not make today's post, but the d/a circuit and two of the new bulbs will leave us tomorrow.
We do get it wrong sometimes and I am sorry we have let you down.

Frankly Guys and Girls,
I've given up on these Driving lights of SS's. Having just received two replacements 130w bulbs (supposed deluxe non blowing every 5 minutes types). To discover that they had been sent in the envelope that I provided, totally unprotected. No surprises that they were both smashed to pieces. With hind sight, maybe I should have sent SS a SAE jiffy bag! But a bit of tissue shoved in the boxes that the bulbs came in, would have probably protected them. Call me picky here but I've had enough. The fog lights go back in and the driving lights go in the bin.
Enjoy....
