Default Oil change question

This question is for owners of garage queens. Let's say if you only do 3k miles a year on average, do you still change the oil every 6 months or a year? Or is it safe to stretch it to 1 and a half to 2 years to reach 6k miles as per the service booklet.

Its personal choice, if your car goes bang are you goin to say "oh i wish id changed the oil every 6 month rather than 12month." oil degrades so after a year it will be crap. I would just chang it, for all it costs afilter and a gallon of oil and an hour of your time...

Oil breaks down over time, also with less use breaks down quicker hence in my opinion its more important to change it every 6 months, i do mine either 3k or 6 months whichever comes first

Depends on what oil is being used, at that mileage a good synthetic will be fine with an annual oil change.

Cheers

I would change the oil every 6 months...this way you'd be sure your doing your upmost with respect to looking after you engine. I would only use fully sunthetic and i'd change the oil filter at the same time to. Oil tends to degrade over time (less so if its synthetic), but it also tends to get "watered" down with the fuel that enters the combustion chamber.....changing it at 6 months ensures the oil is working its best.
I wouldn't stretch to 1..1.5 years...thats asking for trouble in the long run.....

Its essential that its changed at max interval of 1 year, even if your doing low miles the oil in the sump is still being attacked by acids and other chemicals produced from a crankcase

everybody seems to agree on this one, one thing i do see a pattern of is scooby owners over protecting their engines rather than leaving services too long which is a posative thing

I reckon yearly would be fine at that mileage (similar to me) BUT how is the mileage made up? lots of short trips or a few long ones? If it's the latter then yearly would be ok.

I am using Motul 300V 5W-40. Well happy with it so far. I've heard and read that oil gets contaminated over time, by moisture, acids, petrol etc, and seems to be confirmed by many here. I guess i'll keep the intervals to well within a year.

It's made up of short trips really....Not the best for the oil i suppose.

Short trips are harder for the oil, but something as good as 300v changed annually will be absolutely fine with that
