Default VF35 or Td05 16g

Hi, im looking for some advise with pro's and cons on upgrading my turbo from the little Td04 to something bigger. I have a bugeye wrx. Mods already are Ecutek remap ,full zorst with 100 cell, walbro pump, induction kit.

I have been reading alot on here about the VF35, these are a popular upgrade with most. These can be had secondhand for £200 - £250 it seems OR I can get a brand new Td05 16g from jdmhondaparts for £250.

So is it worth going for the brand new turbo over the secondhand one? or are there other turbo's around i should consider.

any advise would be appreciated.

thx

Make similar power - circa 340-350bhp.

But the easiest bolt-on route is the VF35 as it's already front entry intake. The TD05 16g, assuming OEM MY93-96 one, is top entry, so would require some tinkering with......

EDIT: Just read you are looking at a "brand bew one" from a retailer. They are usually indeed front cover.... but also are usually trash i.e. it'll fail in short order. Only consider brand new TD turbos from the likes of harvey or Andy Forrest... or just get a 2nd hand low miles VF35 off eBay or here...

from what ive gathered aobut hte 2 as ive been searching the 2 is the VF35 is a ball bearing turbo and so spouls up fast and smoother, the td05 how ever is spose to be the stronger of the 2, ive opted for the VF35 and just got one for £250 with all pipes etc delivered from chap on here.. as im sure the VF35 will be strong enough and better boost type with ball bearing turbo.

Yes, I'd go for the VF34 if I was the OP.

What bhp can the Bug WRX TMIC handle? 350? 400?

if the prices of the vf34 were the same as the vf35 then i would have the 34 but they are mega money in comparison. I will need more supporting mods aswell with the new turbo like bigger injectors, plus another remap, so the saving buying the vf35 will pay for these

Yeah, the VF35 could make 340, so therefore is a good match for your TMIC.

Will spool great too! Affordable beast as well.

If you don't change gear like Superman, you should be okay. It's the stronger 8-bolt TY754 5-sp, after all...

But there's an element of luck/bad luck re the boxes, regardless.

342 bhp with VF35, lags abit gay tho.
Been told about getting the wastegate ported can lose some of the lag.

Anyone one know if you have to remap once ported??

Been told a vf43 off a 2.5 sti is a good turbo on the 2.0 as well, think it is larger in the wastegate area so don't need porting.
