Question I have the opportunity to buy this V3 Wagon.

Evening all. A long time browser of this forum, but I have finaly started looking seriously at Impreza's so now is the time to join up.

I have the opportunity to buy this car, although I am unsure of what version/spec it is and wether it is good value or not?.. The owner is on hols at the mo so unable to get any more info like chassis no. etc.

The facts:
1995, imported
55k
V3 STI Wagon
Blue Mica
Standard 275hp, no mods..

The owner says it is a 'lightened' version.

It has an intercooler spray
And a 'red block'.

What spec is this lightened version? Or is he just bigging up the standard STI spec?

Apparently it is spotless, recently refurbed wheels and cambelt too.

£2500

What do you chaps think? what spec is it and is it a good deal?

Views/comments appreciated!

MED.

95 would make it a pre face lift in my book which is not v3. its v2
v2 wagon sti would make it 260ps
its not lightened, it may have a alloy bonnet, however i think this was skipped on the wagon (was on mine).
2500 is OK IF its in really nice condition. if its like most of the usual rubbish i see about these days it aint worth more than 2k.

If a 1995 then It's STI Version II (not III). And it'd have 260PS (256bhp).

If between Sep 96-Aug 97, then it IS a STi III and has 280PS (276bhp) as you elude to.

If you can, post up a photo of the engine and its "Applied model code" (7 character code on VIN plate on passenger front suspension turret) and we'll tell you...

ditto what others said, but on the plus side 55k is very low miles, IF they're genuine. Could just be it's got used clocks off another car, so worth finding out how long it's been in this country, and if the import docs are still available. Otherwise overall condition should give enough clues as to real mileage.

If it's properly mint all over it's a good buy wagons don't all have ally bonnets, even special editions. Take a magnet with you lol ! V2's are nice because you get old skool looks with a nice TD05 turbo. Phase 1.5's are a bit meh!

Blue mica ? 53C paint code is nice...

If by lightened edition they are eluding to a 555 wagon, you need the magic interior code 62, 61's are just similarly spec'd 53c STi wagons

This is mine in Monty Blue

...and you should always haggle !

OK, so its starting to make sense.

One thing I forgot to mention was the lack of sound proofing also...

I know, I really need to provide more details..

So do all 1995 STIs have the red block, intercooler spray, lightened and lack of sound proofing and 275hp then???

I thought 1995 ws too early for a V3, but he seems to think it is.. strange.

I will know more details in a weeks time.

A 1995 reg'd car can NEVER be v.3, as v.3 didn't start until the latter half of 1996! I already pointed this out in detail in my 1st post lol

Yep.. I think so too.. Just confirming as the owner is sure it is a V3..
I will get the chassis number and specifics.

Is there a good resource online to explain the various versions and their differences?? Wikipedia is the best ive found so far, but I am guessing there must be a good enthusiasts site somewhere.

In Chris Rees' You and Your Impreza book, there's a page that list's in detail the Classic MY runs, and each and every JDM variant.
