Default cold starting - it don't want to

have noticed recently (and this is before the current cold spell) that my scooby has been a little hesitant when starting up from cold. it does start but not right away.Over the last couple of days now the temperature has dropped it is getting worse and to the point where I think it is not going to start at all.

My car is a 53 blob Wrx, 53K on the clock and just had a cambelt and full service (problem was present before the service too). Its all standard.

Any advice on what this could be and anything I could check. I am going to give the battery a test tomorrow, I suppose it could be loosing charge and affected by the cold but is there anything alse to give the once over?

I am more used to fiddling with old ford engines so this modern thing is a bit new to me, don't really know what to look for now.

Cheers

Mark

battery....IMO...they can cause all sorts of problems our old golf had all sorts of issues with its alarm and our escort would not start every time..... if you think battery what is £30 to rule out the obvious.... which i think is ruled out too much IMO its the first place to look......as my dad would say its the battery son...and the winter always shows it........now that is old school....technically its will be 6yrs old would you leave a filter on for 6 yrs???

excellent, cheers for the replies.
If it is the battery that can easily be fixed and well within my capabilities for once!
Hopefully that should be it sorted tomorrow

Do the batt test... Put dipped beam on (in the dark)... crank engine. Does the light almost go out when cranking over (instead of dimming slightly). Chances are the batt is putting out less than circa 10V (if it is the batt that is).

yeah, looks like it was the battery. Trip to Halfrauds and new battery fitted. Bit more expensive than the one I bought from them for my pinto engine £83 notes!

You sound surprised? This is "let's take advantage of the good-natured, albeit apathetic, folk of (rip-off) Britain" we live in, after all.
