Default fuel smell on start up

hi all, just like it says, i get a strong smell of fuel wen i start my car, 94 impreza wrx import, only been doin it for a few days, cant c any leaks so wot else cud it be? spark plugs?

Why does the fuel smell come from?

I used to get a bit of a smell from my exhaust on start up (93wrx with decat)

has your fuel economy dropped?Maybe its running rich,mine used to do it but i had a strange ticking noise and more serious problems that were causing it

just get smell from inside the car, havent had any1 start it for me to be outside it, fuel econemy still the same, wot tickin sound did u have? i get a tickin noise but its only wen i do 77mph. its weird.

fuel pump possibly , they are pretty good but i just had to replace 1 on a 93

if it is the fuel pump how easy is it to replace? wud it be best to get an uprated pump or somethin like that?

There is a carbon chamber fitted that condenses fuel vapours. There is a pie that vents from the carbon trap down under the engine bulk head and to 2 'connections' clipped to the chassis rails close by the gearbox crossmemmber. Your smell may be coming from on of the vent tubes broken/perrished or missing. Check the full run of the tube. The carbon trap is close to the rad at the front on the turbo side of the engine.
Large, black, about 70mm diameter and 150mm long.
