Did you change just the matrix or the complete unit?
Maybe you have a duff servo that controls the hot to cold adjustment.
If you've still got the old complete until try swapping over the servo (2 philips scews)
Air lock would give you overheating problems & similar symptoms to cold air blowing through the matrix.
Try feeling the 2 water pipes that lead to the matrix to see if both a warm/hot to touch.
You will need to drive the car to really see if it overheats, I had similar issue where there was no hot air blowing through matrix, temp gauge seemed ok until a quick drive around the block & the temp gauge shot up to red.
Basically mine had a air lock.
I removed the small pipe that leads to the top of the rad, then filled the system with water until it flowed out of the small pipe. I also removed other water pipes & filled the system where I could. Started the engine until temp gauge reached normal. Then once it cooled down, I left the rad cap off overnight & in the morning I could see the level had dropped, refilled & test drive, had no problems touch wood.

passenger side under the matrix its self is two plugs to turn it from hot to cold just check they are both working and moving when you turn the *** if not then chances are the heater is set to cold and no power geting to motors to turn it
