More MAF Q's
Guys,
After reading many threads on faulty MAFs & their consequences I did my first ECU diagnostic check, code 23 & 32 cropped up (MAF & O2). I had no idea anything was wrong with the car as it appears to run perfectly, smooth boost to 1.2 Bar & idles consistently at approx' 700RPM. The car stalls if I unplug the MAF when the car is cold but not when it is warm? Should I rely on what the ECU is telling me & replace both or should I take it somewhere to be checked/confirmed first?
I have done an ECU reset, codes are still coming up.
Its a 96 WRX, only mod is an APEXI filter.
Thanx in advance
Shane

New MAF but still error codes??
Just replaced MAF (£220) & did ECU reset & Fault 32 (Lambda sensor) flashed up whilst driving during reset. Then did a diagnostic check & still had 23 (MAF) & 32.
There is a high pitched whistle from the turbo under very low boost at a certain pressure could this be playing a part?
Any ideas guys?
Thanx in advance

MAF unreliability is only a reel issue on MY99/00 cars. Although they can break on other models it is rare.
Did you reset the ECU on your old MAF and Lambda setup to see if it flashed out the error codes again? (This would of been my 1st step)
It sounds like you may of just had a Lambda problem and could of taken off a working MAF.
If you need a Lambda get a Bosch LS02 from here:
Just Lambda, Suppliers of zirconia and titania lambda sensors by post
or here
eBay.co.uk: BOSCH UNIVERSAL LAMBDA SENSOR LS 02 (item 120047654579 end time 29-Nov-06 13:49:44 GMT)
Also
I'm sure i've read that the Apexi filtration isn't very good, this could foul your MAF (Check this out i'm not 100%) - I'm sure someone will come along and clarify this.
A K&N would be a better option
Hope this helps

But i'm guessing its an import and has come over with the Apexi on it like most of them do.

Thanks Heple, I did say I reset ECU in the first post & both faults came up afterwards?
So you guys think I should buy a Lambda next then? Will the Bosch Lambda be a straight swap or will I have to rewire for the connectors?
I do have the original airbox so will try that on on Monday, also having an emission test done to see if that shows anything unusual?
Thanx for help guys

An emmisions test will narrow down the search as long as you have all your cats in place.
The Bosch LS02 will fit but it may require you to crimp your existing connector to it. (It is a very simple fit)

Wasn't the MAF after all!!!
Just fitted the new Lambda & original MAF - ECU reset & all fault codes cleared, gonna try returning new MAF to Subaru or will have to try to sell it on ebay??

Just a shame you bought the MAF but you could fit it anyway then you know you've got a minter on the car.
