advice on clutch
so ive been recommended 3 different clutches for my upcoming build
act heavy duty
competition clutch stage 3
exedy twin plate
i would have thought the twin plate would be overkill for a fast road car under 500bhp and they are also very very expensive. do they drive nice and smooth? i had a paddle clutch in my old blob sti and that was bloody awful so if its anything like that then i wont bother.
any advice please

I’ve had an Exedy Hypertwin FM022SD on the hatch for the last 3 months and it’s great. Pedal a bit lighter than the pink box I had earlier, which started slipping at 450/450. No slippage or judder with the Hypertwin, while the previous pink box was juddering awfully. It was a bit rattly to begin with, but after the break-in the rattling stopped completely. I use the car daily and do 30K miles a year and the Hypertwin is the best clutch I’ve had on the car so far. Definitely worth the premium.

The FM022SD is rated up to 600lbft flywheel. The FM022HD with the higher clamping force can go up to 730lbft. Mine is a standard 2.5 block with only forged pistons and rods, so the SD is good enough. Will yours be a 2.5 or 2.35?

I see that you’re in Hinckley. I come down to Kettering for work quite frequently. I could do a small diversion for you to have a drive in mine, see how you like the clutch

That is awesome dude. How do you manage to make a 370lbft rated clutch take 530lbft?

the issue with 'pinks' always seemed to relate around certain re-sellers of possibly dubious rep...................
make of that what you will but surprisingly we have had very very few genuine issues in near 20yrs of dealing with Exedy direct...........

personally ran 460lbft on a 2.5 long rod build with a 5 speed pink box, no issues and that was dragged at pod a fair few times.
FM022SD are decent but not cheap. Dmitrij ran one in his GC8 and you know what hammer that thing gets lol

yes easily available BUT be aware that some require far more than simply the plates if the centre plate has warped, etc.............
sometimes as cheap to buy the right thing 1st time
