Wooah! Steady on there m8, I used to work for Partco and I can tell you, we used to get back half of the "Valeo" kits we ever sold ( broken "fingers" on covers and dodgy release bearings ). An AP Lockheed woould be a better bet !

My car's a year old done that sort of mileage - surely my clutch warranty hasn't expired already?

SCOSaltire.

Get yourself to your local dealer and get them to fix it.

If its gone that badly, it should be a warranty claim. Just had mine done for judder and slip at 24,000 miles.

Cheers

Fight to get it under warranty, if not a new clutch and flywheel and fitting is going to be 6-700 quid including labour and VAT.

Camk,
6-700 including fitting!!!!

That might be the price in Germany mate, but over here your going to be paying around £500+ just for the clutch and fitting.

Approx prices are:
Clutch £330
Release bearing £80
Labour £150+

The flywheels are not cheap either, i'm sure they are just under £300!!!!

I think you will be looking at nearer to £900 for the lot........even more if you went to a Subaru dealer!!!!

Shaun.

Diablo,
Was urs done under warranty? They never complained that perhaps it was abused? I havent abused mine. What did u get done to it? P1 Clutch and assembly? New Flywheel?

1000 quid is alot. And ill be arguing tooth and nail (hopefully wont have to) to get it done under warranty. Its reproducable all the time now. I have an appointment with the dealer, so should be able to show the problem.

I would say its a manufacturing fault - cars done 22k in 20 months. No track days. No abuse with fast starts - only driving car as its meant to be driven.

If its under warranty - what work / parts should I be looking for? P1 clutch and assembly? what flywheel? skimmed flywheel or new flywheel?

If its not under warranty (im sure it will be) - what parts should I be looking for? P1 clutch? 3rd party clutch? again, skimmed or new flywheel?

U are all knowledgeable guys, get me informed

cheers

SCOSaltire

Get yourself down the dealer, just make sure it's the right one. T&C Perth or S&S Ayr seem to actually like customers!

I had my clutch & flywheel replaced due to judder under warranty at 25k miles, 2.5yrs old.

Regards

Mark

Not sure, but i reckon you could get a non genuine clutch kit (plate, cover & bearing) from somewere like PARTCO etc. I can reccomend VALEO clutch kits, as i've fitted a few of these and have always been spot on!(Not on impreza though). Also, a lot of Car manufacturers use VALEO clutches as orig equipment.
Not sure who makes them for Subaru though?
Still worth looking into...

I believe the only way to repair a flywheel, is to replace with a new unit. Else you're asking for more problems!

SCOSaltire

Told them my clutch was slipping slightly and juddering (esp when cold)

They replaced whole lot, clutch plate, cover, release bearing and flywheel (its all part of a clutch kit from Subaru)under warranty.

Emphasise the judder, not the slip. Its a known warranty repair according to my dealer.

Don't know what they put on, but its smooth and bites like a pitbull when you need it to

Unhappy

Hi all...
Tonight, in 2nd gear, the clutch slipped.
There was then a horrible rubbery smell that went on for ages (can still smell it in my nose) and then the clutch juddered at every takeoff.

I have a MY99 car, that has had a juddery clutch in the mornings.

Any ideas / what i should do / should be done / what the smell was?

Cheers

Oh Hell!

If you're clutch starts to slip, you really do have to drive like a saint, to get you home/repaired.
The smell was of course the lining of the clutch plate getting really hot! This heat has been absorbed by the flywheel, and it's obviously been too much, and warped the flywheel!
This happened to my old Renault 5 turbo (going back a few years!) where the clutch was slipping when accelerating in 3rd & 4th.
I removed the clutch, which did'nt look too bad, but the flywheel had lots of tiny cracks and it had gone blue!!!
Replacement of the flywheel & clutch assembly is the answer.
Not Cheap

oh oh!

but i didnt feel as though i did anything wrong...

how much are we talking? 500 quid?
would the heat have stopped at the flywheel? or would the engine be in trouble?!

surely it should be a warranty case?

I have never abused the car - i.e. high revs starts.

hmm

it would only be warranty if you have done under (i think ) 15000 mls but you shoulden't have caused any damage to the engine

I am in a similar situation,
luverly smell and a fantastic judder.
I wonder could they market this as a feature of the car?

I don't know which dealer to contact in NI though?

I had to get a clutch done on a 2.2 Legacy. Subaru dealer wanted nearly £300 + vat I think for the part + 6hrs labour at £35 + vat.

I got a clutch kit from the local motor factors (who appologised at least twice over the price ) - £145 + vat. AP part I seem to recall. Got it fitted by a local garage with experience of a Calibra 4x4 for £180. They did the cambelt at the same time for another £20 - part supplied by myself.

Unfortunately they rested the engine on the sump pan. It was a bit corroded and when refitted it was 'porous' - So £80 for a new sump an another £20 to fit that and I hadn't saved quite as much as I hoped

Hope you get yours done OK

hi

was told today that all turbos have juddery clutches, especially when cold, and to drive around it.

true?

was told to see how it goes over the next few weeks.

even though it has been getting worse, and now judders when trying to pull away above 2k revs...

ScoSaltire

I changed to a different dealer permanently after I was given this story. Having said that I had to fight to get my clutch replaced on warranty (MY98 with 38000). Now that the clutch has been replaced, no judder or slip - much better.

Would probably pay you to try one of the dealers above that have already done the job under warranty. I'ts just a question of travelling and knowing you'll be driving a Justy around for a few days!!!!!!!
Might be worth an email to Diablo to find out where his dealer is???
