Car pulls better and holds boost better, but the noise.....
You now here the turbo spinning up both outside and inside the car, and the BOV is very loud, sounds like an external BOV. Makes it a more entertaining drive !
Checked the fit and nothing was loose, are these noises normal for induction kits. Im not complaining as thay sound luvly !

Lemme' know if there's any problem with the MAF...I r-e-a-l-l-y want an induction kit on my MY00, but I've seen more than a few with broken MAF's.
Does the kit come with stable mounting parts...from what I've heard MAF's have broken due to vibrating filters, and/or filter oil clogging the MAF sensor.
Right now I'm considering an ITG panel from SS....but that sound of the induction kit... *mmmmmmm*

I have a pipercross induction kit on my MY00...and I know others who have the same. We have not suffered from any MAF failiures.

Why not just remove the resonator and add a decent panel filter? I cancelled my order for the 57i after trying this!
Has the benefit of giving colder air as well - I'm very impressed with the results; much better pick-up and a little more power...methinks!
For those that like it - you get all the induction noises to. I don't & am fabricating a pipe to move the intake a little further forward to try and quieten it down.

No problems - someone posted here or at 22B for me a week or so back.
On a my99;
* remove wheel and front splash guard under wheel-arch/front bumper
* remove supporting bracket between engine-tub & inner wing (2 nuts; one fiddly!)
* remove big black & performance sapping "gourd-like" thing (2 nuts) - this is the resonator!
* remove the black plastic piece now flapping in the engine bay
* put the support bracket back in & refit splash guard
* I guess you could refit the wheel too
About 1 hour all in - unless your dealer riveted the splash guards on after replacing your front bumper!!!
I'm also going to try blocking the hole between engine bay and inner wing left by the old intake - hoping this will give cooler intake temps.
The resonator's primary function is to quieten induction noise - but I really don't understand why intake was left in the *slightly warm* engine bay! I'm not sure whether performance increase is due to cooler air or improved airflow....or both!
Scooby friends here in Switzerland also tracked down some other information from Oz saying this was good for 3-5kW - certainly pick-up is much, much improved!
DISCLAIMER: Sucking in water from every puddle you drive through is probably not good for your engine.......make sure splash guards are in working order and that everything is secured afterwards; the area under the wing should be clean with no sign of water ingress - if it ain't, don't do this mod.

Twas not me, I was there in the evening though, although we have seen each other, briefly at the Saab traffic lights in Southborough, yours looks really fierce in black, not a car to cut up !

Top marks - instructions were very useful. Bit of a fiddle, but it came out OK - that resonator is huge! Not surprised it has such an effect on the car.
I reckon its made it smoother and the turbo does appear to wind up a bit quicker. Great sound track too! New panel filter arrives this week!!

I am very tempted to get a 57i kit for my 93WRX but am wondering what the power increase would be as I am allowed by my insurance up to 10% without a premium increase, I already have a 3" JAMSA system with 2nd cat removed, anyone like to take a guess?

Rob,
The centre piece of the plug has to be removed first and the plug almost falls out after that. The centre can be pressed right through and out the other side but you will probably lose it and be unable to replace it - I removed mine by carefully prising the centre out with the pointed end of a pair of compasses. The plugs on the wheel arch are screwed in and the crosses in the centre of them are very easy to round off but, again, it can be done if you're careful. Hope this helps.

I broke a couple removing the splash guards. Some of the plugs are a two piece construction and they are difficult to remove without breaking them. I replaced them with similar ones found in Halfords.

you dont have to competely remove the centre bits,just push the centre in slightly and the clip becomes loose,then pull out the whole clip.refitting them- push the centre back out towards you ,push clip back in hole holding the outer part ,then simply push centre back in so it is flush,it a piece of cake mate and you shouldn't loose or break any unless your not too clever at these sort of things.

Sorry guys but I am a little confused.
On my MY96 UK there is a black plastic baffle box just downstream of the MAF sensor. Is this the MY96 equivalent of the under-wing resonator you refer to on the MY00 but just in a different place, or is there a resonator box under my wing as well as this baffle box. And if so do I remove both of them... Baffled?

Stratman, there are two resonators. The one you refer to as downstream will have a smaller breather pipe attached to it? If its the same one as my 93 WRX it has. I am going to try and replace thisone with an alloy pipe to see if I get any added performance from it. The other one is up under the front wing. You need to remove the splash guards to see it.

Thanks Mark. Are both boxes there only to attenuate the intake and BOV sounds? If that is the case then both boxes could be removed to improve air flow. Is that the idea?

I think that the 'top' one also acts as a collector for any oil residue from within the engine as the breather pipe is located at the lowest part of it. Should be easy enough to form a connection to pick it up though.

Well have the resonator out and am impressed by the all round performance improvement.
Had to do it twice though - forgot to reinstate the bracket!
The size of the resonator is a bit of a shock - It is BIG.
Sound increase is only marginal - but noticed K&N air filter clogged with insects- so cleaning and re oiling of filter could require frequent attention .
