Default Plusnet and torrents

I'm going to be moving my BB provider from TalkTalk (was Pipex) and was thinking of going with Plusnet. I use torrents to download old radio plays and I heard that Plusnet block or throttle torrent trackers. Can anyone tell me if this is true?

Cheers

It depends upon the plan you take.... you can get PLUSNET PRO add-on for £5 a month, which will give you line speed on anything you do 24/7.

I'm going for the Plusnet extra. I've just found the following which explaines their management policy and download speeds.

One of the main reasons I left plusnet, they say they prioritise protocols with their "addon" but in reality forget it. Their FUP management is so convoluted and aggressive its unreal. I swiftly left and joined a proper ISP, where I can dload what I want (within reason) when I want. Stay well clear imo.

That's interesting. I'll have to do some more searching on the net about this. I'll hold off talking to them for the moment then.

Who did you join?

I've certainly heard that they are extremely reluctant to provide MAC codes.

But really it's not difficult. Request a MAC code using the official method (online form or via email preferable). If you don't have it after 5 days call them and state that the OFCOM regulations say that they should have provided a MAC code within 5 days and if they don't give it to you now you will call OFCOM.

I've had to call OFCOM before and it's very easy. They give you an incident number and, depending on the ISP, you may be given a phone number of a high escalations team within the ISP. That gets things moving pretty quickly

Be There (www.bethere.co.uk) are the only ISP I know who have a totally unlimited, unthrottled service.

Mate they`re the worst. The MAC code was no problem, it was getting them to stop billing me for 3 months and trying to set debt collectors on me I`d ring up time after time and get through to an Asian robot who knew **** all. Shame I don`t still have the emails I sent them and you`d see how fcuked off I was with them. If talktalk was the only provider, I`d have no internet. I could go on but they p1ssed me off so much I`d just get wound up again! Completely useless, knowledgeless (if that`s a word ), incompetent etc., etc.

Don't Sky do unlimited if you can get their LLU service?

Happy PlusNet customer here as I don't really use torrents, means my online gaming is all tickety-boo.

Newnet, with a 20gig cap/month for £23. But only because I have no alternative as my exchange is not LLU. If it was I would go with SKY as it is probably the only ISP left that is truly unlimited.

However Newnet do not throttle anything, so I get max line speed at all times and gaming is great with very low pings.

I've only heard good things from Plusnet recently - including someone I know who downloads a LOT of torrents/newsgroups.
If you're on the right tarriff then you should be fine. Although the fella I know probably does a lot off-peak.

Exactly, you can only do it when they allow you to, off peak only is crap.
