Angry Plusnet Broadband - intermittant connection problems...any ideas?

hi all

My father is pulling his hair out (whats left of it) trying to get his PC to connect to the Plusnet's broadband service. 8/10 times he simply gets an error message stating that the remote pc is not responding. I spent the best part of 2hrs Sunday re-installing his system for the very same message 80% of the time. Rechecked all config, all seems 100% correct. Weird that it works occaisonally (very)

He's tried calling their support team, but the automated message informs him he should expect a 45m wait (45m FFS!). Emailing support doesnt seem to get him anywhere either.

Apparently he can't cancel the agreement and use someone else as they wont issue him a decactivation code, until his contract expires in 11months. I believe he needs this code to go to another ISP (or does he?)

Anyone else use Plusnet? Any advice?

cheers

Neil

I'm with plusnet. Only had 1 connection issue in 18 months. That was last week and down to a radius server issue - which was flagged on thier web site.

Sorry - cant be much more help.

Are you using a USB modem or an Ethernet one?

Sometimes the USB ones draw too much power. Last time I got a plusnet ones though, they had both Ethernet and USB on. Using Ethernet would be much better.

Also, tghe best plasce for support is through the 'ticket' system - although you need to be online to access it.

Smells like a problem with his modem - and I think it's a usb type device if he's 'dialling' with it. I would borrow a modem/router and try that first.

Phoning later at night ( 11pm onwards ) gets you through to a human faster btw

When he can get on, get him to log into the Plusnet website, go to 'Connection Settings' under 'My Account' on the left and start the Broadband Fault checker.

Going through Contact Us on their portal also starts the fault checker.

Dave.

Also put your message on the forums about the bad support, you may get a faster response that way. To be honest though, they will just send you around the houses asking u to do BT/hardware checks until you're blue in the face. It could be your line or modem, but if u are ocassionally getting a connection then I would think the line is at fault.
