PlusNet - what a package!
Right just been looking about this morning. And us Pipex customers are being ripped off!
I called PlusNet. For 21.99 incl vat you can have a 2mb line on their Premier package that has no fair usage policy, no download limits, no port blocking apart from 445 and 139 (and they can be removed if requested) and static ip addresses all for 21.99 I am now going to give up waiting for BT to do the upgrade for free and pay their rip off 14.99 just so I can have 2mb at 2 quid a month less than what I am paying Pipex for a 512kb line
PlusNet were also extremely helpful on the phone, very polite and very informative - a complete contrast to those tossers at Pipex!
I've had enough of the Pipex attitude so am moving to PlusNet immediately

to be honest I dont use P2P much, hardly ever, but it ran well when I did, other than that my 2 meg always pulls 230k/second ish which is bang on for 2 meg. They recently lowered the contention on my package to 30:1 as well and are talking of the 4 meg and 8 services that are on the way

Apparently, a percentage of their network bandwidth is allocated to P2P stuff. Once this limit is reached, P2P downloads will start to be throttled to avoid impacting non-P2P downloads, which are never throttled.
Therefore, at 'peak' times, you 'may' see throttling on P2P downloads, even on the Premier account.
Also, with regards to your migration, AFAIK you have to be migrated to the same connection as you currently have. Therefore, changing from Pipex 512K to PlusNet 2M is actually a migration + a regrade, and they may want to charge you for the regrade (£14.99). I'm not sure about this, but it's worth getting confirmation from PlusNet as to exactly what you will get.
Also, be absolutely sure your line can support 2Mb before you pay for any regrade. If it can't, I believe you have to pay for a "degrade" down to a speed you can support. Also worth checking.
Other than that, welcome to PlusNet!

Thanks, yep my exchange can take 2mb, yes I will have to pay the upgrade fee or I can wait for it to be done but apparently BT are so far behind it could take ages before it gets done so will cough up the 14.99 just to get my 2mb (i've been waiting since March and its still not done!)
MAC code has been requested so should have it early next week and have 30 days to use it so can try and time the new service with starting towards the end of the last paid month with Pipex
I have a 2mb adsl line at work and it is SO much better than the measily 512 I have at home so look forward to quick download times.

The migration and regrade aren't simultaneous. I migrated from Zen @ 512kbps to PlusNet @ 'up to 2Mbps' and the migration was 512kbps -> 512kbps. I was regraded (with £14.99 fee) to 2Mbps about 12hrs after my PlusNet service went live.

Yeah I was told it was 5-7 days after my service starts that the regrade will happen. Thats fine with me, the fact is I am paying 23.84 or whatever it is for 512 now and will be paying 21.99 for 2mb. Pipex customer services asked me why I was leaving them when I asked for the MAC and told her and said it was a no brainer and she couldn't argue with that.
The fact is if the exchange cards are 2mb and thats what you connect at then Pipex are ripping off their customers by throttling the connection depending on how much you pay them. PlusNet don't do this so whatever your exchange cards are is what you connect at for the same money. Seems much fairer to me

Less than 24hrs in my case mike. I noticed the connection to demon had dropped between leaving the house and getting to w*rk. Put the new settings in when I got home and was running again
