ISP?
Is there a consensus on which ISP is best to use? Or more particularly who to avoid?
My sis has been using Zen (??) but is fed up with them and wants to change. Just general family use.
I've told her I use Plusnet who have their off days but generally OK.
Reasonable cost and a helpline which works when required.
Thanks, David

Only two spring to mind
Be There, good value & good service,
changed recently to a semi capped service for the lower tariffs for new
customers, but looks like exsisting customers stay unlimited.
But higher tariffs are unlimited
SKy
as strange as it seems they offer a truly unlimited service

i'm with sky and never had a problem with connections, only ever had a problem with the router but they sent another out f.o.c
just had a letter from them saying they are upgrading our line to their 20mb service which lowers the cost as well so i'm staying with them!

Thanks guys. I don't understand the technicalities of the Zen problem but she mailed me to say "We have just been allowed back on the Internet after being summarily disconnected by our ISP because apparently we have had a virus sending out spam email to the world. We've run the malware thing they told us to - we have loads of virus and firewall security so not sure why it happened, but they said it was linked to Bit torrent" Apparently she is now back on Internet but only running at 1 mb so can't view video clips etc.
Probably all her fault but she is female of course......

Ok it's not blistering, but I stuck with a 1meg service for over 7 years and never had any problems. Only got upped as we moved and they were all 'up to 8 meg' packages.

All Isps limit the speed at which you can download files usually at peak times. Plusnet are a big offender of this and were one of the reasons why I left them as they would never admit that they were doing this aggressively and hence affecting dload speeds at all times.
A cap (in Newnets case) means you can download to your hearts content at the maximum speed your line can achieve at any time of the day up to a certain amount of data, e.g 30gigs a month.
