iPad/iPhone.. Frustrating!
I've been a lover of the iPhone since it came out and bought myself an iPad recently too.
Since having the iPad I've hardly touched my laptop, I love browsing forums on the iPad and one of my favourite things on the net is to view project threads on various car forums. The thing I've noticed since not using my laptop though is the lack of cache memory (if that's the right term) the iPad has! If you try and view a thread with lots of pictures it crashes back to the home screen every time, has to be lots of pictures but it's very frustrating.
I knew the iPhone did this but I'm surprised the iPad does (as it's supposed to be a more competent web browser)
It's definitely a memory issue as I can get it to crash every time on a thread that has over a certain amount of pictures.
Not sure if it's something apple can 'fix' but I've googles it and found others complaining and no hint of anything you can do about it

What version of the iPad do you have? I have a standard 32GB type and Have never experienced that issue.
If you go on google images where it constantly loads images as you scroll down do you get the same issue? I've got in the habit of clearing the cache every day before I start browsing as I think that browsing gets a lot slower if you don't clear the cache regularly.
I find the biggest ***** ache is the lack of Flash support realty inhibits the use Ebay, BBC, ITV and other major websites.

First thing I tried was a new browser, exactly the same so I guess the iPad just has a finite amount of memory allowed before it just dumps the lot. I've had a look on the apple forum and it's not just me, I'd suggest people who don't experience it possibly haven't viewed enough pictures.
The google images thing only loads a certain amount of pics per page doesn't it?
I did try clearing the cache and viewing a page that'd crash and it did load but I viewed a couple more and went back to it and sure enough it crashed again!
Even if it doesn't crash before the page has loaded it'll crash as you're scrolling down.

Have a browse of this thread, might not go on the first time but if you have a browse of that restoration forum I'm sure you'll experience it.
It's a shame you can't specify your own cache size, I remember on my old Sony Ericsson p900 you could do that.

Yep, my iPad crashed back to the home screen when loading the Passionford link.
It loaded the page, I got the white/grey checker print as I scrolled down and it loaded the pics ........ But near the bottom of the page it crashed. I guess I've never loaded such a pic heavy page before!
Must be the limitation of the cache size as you say.

Odd, tried he passionford link on my3GS and it loaded ok. It did take a while to fully load though. Whilst scrolling I did see the standard checkerboard pattern but could scroll past that to see the items further down the page. Probably took about three
mins to obtain the full page and I was scrolling up and down the page
what ios version are you chaps running on the iphone and are they jailbroken? I can see how a 3G on ios4 could be rather slow and have problems

Did the new update on the iPad and it's sorted this problem by the looks. Been browsing the net since 2'ish and not once had a crash back to the home screen and that includes over 2 hours lost into various project threads on the net with hundreds of pictures.
I now really love my iPad

I like my iPad as well, the only thing that is really missing is a lack of email notification. So it beeps, I don't care I want something visual as I have the volume on mute. Just a little envelope in the top bar next to the time or something ...

the storage size on the device is irrelevant
the ipad has 256mb ram and the iphone 4 has 512mb.
prior to ios4 on ipad, kill all the browser tabs apart from the one you're looking at. safari remains in memory when other apps don't.
post ios4, close all other apps and non required safari tabs.
that's your best bet
