Default McAfee Stuff.

Advice needed please.........

My 'free' edition that was already on my Samsung NC10 Netbook is about to expire. Do I pay and keep it, or is there an alternative? I already pay the thieving gits at Norton for my desktop, so I don't want to pay out even more than I need to.

Download and use any old free version for now, then when Microsoft release their free version move to that. I worked at a high level in Antivirus software for 12 years, I can tell you that the team at Microsoft are some of the best in the business, Antivirus vendors will be crapping themselves right now.

Sorry to be a pain...........

Would the AVG freebie package be ok? I start off thinking it would, then when I look at all the other 'posher' bits, I get confused and panicked into thinking I should pay for one.

Interesting comment re the Microsoft anti virus, the downside I can see is that all the hackers will concentrate their efforts in finding ways to bypass the Microsoft anti virus and leave os more exposed !

oh and free (non Microsoft AV's), I currently use avira - Free antivirus - Avira AntiVir
quicker scan engine that AVG and avast and seems less impact on slower pc's - coupled with Malwarebytes anti-malware & super free and spyware - all run weekly keeps my laptop clean.

Thanks Richard.

I might go for that one then. It's only for my netbook. Can I download it before my McAfee runs out, or will it cause problems? I've got 4 days left on my McAfee *cue 'Countdown' music*.

Yes download load the .exe file and then run setup either now or in 4 day when the Mcafee has expired.
Just remember to remove the mcafee anti virus first and then install which ever av you decide to go with.
2 av running together does not work !

They already spend that effort trying to defeat current Antivirus software, nothing new and nothing get get alarmed about.

Use the Mcafee removal tool MCPR.exe rather than just the uninstall option.

Been trying to rack my brains and remember which AV company microsoft has recently bought out ? Anyone remember ?
All eggs in one basket comes immediately to my mind with the thoughts of a Microsoft AV. Not alarmed - just a comment / observation.
But seriously I will try the new Microsoft av when its released - out of curiosity and I do like free !
