Does anyone know if these are any good and any other ways of getting it in cheaper. I have been learning about it today and it looks good but the providers are not well known companies except aol in Amercia.
Any info would be appreciated.

I would only be using it for downloads and surfing etc(no games).
I know about BT and their version but there is no info on it on the intranet. I work for them.
thanks anyway

The BT version is a ridiculous price, but most other places offer it 1 way only, ie you can download but not upload, so you have to have a seperate net connection.

It's not cheap but....All but the enterprise plus are USB based
(Satellite based systems)
Soho 512k/128k 159.00
Soho Plus 640k/128k 199.00
Enterprise 768k/128k 249.00
Enterprise Plus 2Mb/128k 599.00
prices per month..(Higher speed is download) Latency would be an issue on any time critical applications (games, Terminal server etc)
Installation and maintenance are included....
I've got a PDF with all the details if your interested

Hello
Be very wary of satellite internet.
Some of them look very dodgy "startup" companies, extremely expensive, and have ridiculous terms and conditions. With one I looked at requiring a 3yr contract!
Tiscali and BT are just about to launch their products. Tiscali is cheaper I believe.
Steve.

Wait for about 8 weeks. Tiscali have just launched a new satellite internet service, which they are trialling at the moment with 100 people. The advantage is that it is 2 way, so you download and upload via the GILAT satellite.
Apparently the 100 testers get the system installed for £230, then have three months free access. After that it is £650 so not cheap, but if you want satellite, this will be the best option.
See this months .net for more info.

Beware Tiscali - Before anyone starts the liable post c*ap, I have fully documented evidence that would take hours to post.
I had their ADSL and the service I received was next to useless. I was without ADSL for over 6 weeks, and found it near impossible to get any answers. In the end I sent a recorded delivery letter terminating the contract - got a standard reply saying my problem would be looked into and replied to - That was in December - I'm still waiting for an answer.
Moral - The service I received from Tiscali was terrible - so beware in case their other services are the same.

What will you be doing over the link?
Satellite is not ideal for low latency applications (ie games) as the lag up to the satellite and down again is large compared to a cable based connection.
BT were / are doing a satellite service as an alternative to ADSL for remote areas.
