Wireless routers ?
I've recently bought an 80GB PS3 and want to get it online. I have my PC on 10MB Virgin Broadband through a cable modem at the moment. I want to connect the PS3 without having wires running around the room which i've been told I can do ?
I don't know anything about wireless routers so what should I go for ?
I've been told the security is rubbish with some of them so what's best to go for and what should I avoid ?

Netgear is what I usually recommend, I don't have a PS3 so I can't guarantee compatability. As for security, you need to use WPA/WPA2 ideally, WEP is not ideal, but better than nothing. Hopefully a Snetter with a PS3 will give some advice on setting it up.

Budget? If around £50 one of these
Linksys WRT54GL 54Mbps Broadband Wireless-G Linux Router
or one of those
NETGEAR WGR614 54Mbps Broadband Wireless Router
same Netgear one below with open source options, below allows you load different firmware from Netgear one which may give extra functionality. If that isn't of interest to you then the above Netgear is a bit cheaper.
NETGEAR KWGR614 Open Source Broadband Wireless-G Router
If you can still cable it then do it, far more reliable than wireless, for a higher budget you can go to N wireless routers which are a faster on wireless, Draytek routers etc.
For the wireless use WPA2 security and make a password here, don't worry about SSID stealthing or Mac filtering
Generate a Secure Password - kurtm.net
For whatever router you use check the support site for firmware updates and be sure to follow the instructions for updating

To be honest I normally don't recommend Linksys but the open source one in my first post everyone raves about on Overclockers even though I've never used one. The WGR614 I've set up for a few people where I work and all have been great

I have Virgin broadband to and a week ago bought a Dlink Wireless Router... plug and play basically... Pc upstairs is wired into it and the media centre downstairs works wireless (at the same time). Yesterday I was sent a Netgear Wireless router brand new in the box! May sell one if your interested, not sure how much the Netgear is worth tho.
either way its easy to do and takes minutes to get up and running...
