Default bsod - help please

Hi

one of the kids has done something to the desktop. they do not know exactly how they done it and are cagey about what they were doing at the time.

anyways the result is a BSOD. i have tried booting via safe modes, last known good config and normal mode. all end up at BSOD.

i have searched a few websites and googled and all say it is a simple registry fix but i cannot get the pc to a position where i can attempt a fix.

afaik the OS is XP (SP2) although the kids may have downloaded SP3.

it has had recent NAV and Spybot scans.
any help in how to get passed the BSOD will be greatly appreciated

cheers

colin

This is a possible solution ---- BUT can result in a non bootable PC - progress with caution Read here How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting before progressing !

I assume you have backups of everything just in case !

Do you know what the Blue Screen error message is, that will help massivley in identifying the problem you now have

You could always boot up from the CD and do a system restore

You could always hit F8 on boot up and choose Last Known Good configuration.

PC repair shop ...

ok so it BSOD on boot .. so something is either physically wrong with it or theirs a driver it doesn't like !

Can you take a photo of the screen and post it up here for us to see ?

You can "download" a version of XP and use that to access the recovery section... for the sake of Sicky whats his face and the other, I do not suggest installing an illegal version of XP .. use it to make your legal version work.
