Default Please help - STOP codes - BSODs :-(

Please help, my trusty HP lappy is trying to blue screen into oblivion!!

From startup, I get through bios and just as the XP Home splash screen fades in, literally 2 seconds later I get a BSOD with the error run check disk blah blah blah and the following code:

0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x8753B2B8, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)

Can anyone shed some light on this? If it helps at all, its on its second hard drive and this one (Seagate) occasionally chirps like its trying to eat a mouse. Related?

What seems unusual to me is that the BSOD appears on the screen and then 2 secs later, it restarts itself, passes bios and presents me with the Windows start options of safe mode, last known... etc. Doesn't matter which you select....... BSOD, and the cycle continues.

Any suggestions please?

A hardware fault could have corrupted XP (whch will probably require a repair install - make sure important data is backed up before doing this). Before doing anything else two things to check:

Check your RAM: http://www.memtest.org/ or http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

And check the fans and fins on the heatsink aren't clogged - the latter may require disassembly to check/clean.

Thanks both for the suggestions. Managed to blow out some sizeable tumbleweed with a can of compressed air or can of wind as we call it at work but still same. Will try this drive in another lappy and another drive in this one and then carry out checks to see how far I can get.

Ironic, I always tell family to back everything up but haven't done so myself lol

Well just to update this, following the blowing out of the fan I decided to run a boot disk to check the drive out but kept getting blue screens when doing that and a VERY hot patch on the reverse side. Opened it up and found a large ball of fluff stuck inside the fan assy. Removed and cleaned everything else for good measure and rebuilt. Booted ok in BartPE so ran chkdsk which found loads of errors and began doing its thing.

Nearly 2 hours later all was well so rebooted into XP and I'm now typing this from the result

Thanks ALi-B, your suggestion was correct
