IMHO - no. Unless you're a student or charity then maybe.

I posted a list of free or cheaper alternatives the other week.

Depends on what you want to use it for. For some people it's worth it, (I personally find it's worth every penny), but for others cheaper alternatives will be just as good.

Without a bit more information it's impossible to say whether it will be worth the money for you or not...

It's a stunning bit of software to be honest. I have never use anything that comes close in terms of versatility, ability, useability and any other kind of ility you care to mention

It is an awesome piece of software there's no doubt, the only gripe i have is there's no on-the-fly canvas rotation (like in painter), for a left hander like me I tend to draw with the paper on a slant :d

It's only a small gripe tho and the power and versatility of the other features more than compensates.

It all depends on what you wanna do with it, i'd say most people probably only use/know about 5% of photoshop's features.

to be honest i've seen what people do with it on here and thought i wouldn't mind being able to do that, nothing specific i want to do but i would do more if i got into it. i can't really download much as when i moved recently i got mobile broadband as its perfect for what i use the net for. so what would you recommend for me then? a novice that likes messing with programs and exploring there capabilitys. how much does this cost?

Around the £500 mark, hence the what do you really need it for questions?, Paintshop pro is a good cheap alternative.

What about Photoshop Elements

Amazon.co.uk: Photoshop Elements 6 (PC): Software

I've never used it but in the camera mags I read they have lots of "How To.." using Elements.

Again, it depends on what you want to do, elements is more for photo retouching, effects etc.
