Default BeThere are good ..

I'm still impressed over a year after signing up to Be*.

I'm just downloading a Torrent at 1.9mb/s. Astounding.

yeah pretty good unless you get a lot of other customers on at the exchange when things can slow down a bit

I don't mean to sound a bit daft in the 'computer related' section...but what the hell is a torrent? Lol, I've been seeing that term alot lately. Need to make more of an effort to keep up with the times!

This explains it far better than I could: BitTorrent (protocol) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And short version is a protocol to distribute mostly illegal content.

Ok thanks for that. So it is sort of like limewire? I know how that works...it's only recently i've noticed the term 'torrent'.

The Be / O2 LLU are ADSL2+ and 2km from the exchange you'd get ~12Mb/s

Do you know the stats for your line? Like attenuation etc.

My line has similar stats Bob. I'm just over 2km as the crow flies and get just over 10Mb/s with Be and over 1Mb/s upload. It did go up to about 12Mb/s when they put me on Fastpath and changed my profile but it was a bit unstable.

bethere told me I would get 5 at max - get 7 standard and with a bit of tweaking I get 8 ... the only problem is the customer service is getting harder to get hold of because they have more customers and when it comes to BT issues they dont seem to be able to influence BT

Although they are the same company, Be* are run as a seperate entity and as such have much better support.

I'm sure this will change, but for the time being I would pick Be*.

if you switch to adsl 2 your attenuation will also increase by about 3db so you would be looking at 48db

DSL ZoneUK - How fast can I get on ADSL2+?

that site says anywhere between 4 and 8 mbps, if you have an snr though of 12 you have some tweakage available there. I reckon you should be looking at about 6 to 7 mbps
