Default Website value?

Hi folks,

A quick question for you.

I setup Mitsubishi Evo Spares - Genuine Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution spares & parts at discounted prices last year.

Since then I've been made redundant from my job & am thinking of selling the site to pay the bills.

I built the site myself & own the name & webspace etc.

There is an ecommerce backend ready to go - all it needs is stock.

The site has a Google page rank of 3 & a quick search for evo spares shows the site at number 2 in Google.

My question is - what is the site worth?

I've posted this on MLR too, but would really welcome your thoughts.

Thanks

Dean

If i were you I would approach someone like http://www.xtreme-uk.net/
and offer it for sale to them. As they sell parts they may be interested in paying a couple of grand.

If all you've done is that page and reskin something like oscommerce then I'd say it's not worth much.
Your number 2 on Google for evo spares because your domain is evospares.co.uk

Depends on how much work you've done on the shop and how much more work you would need to do for the buyer to get it all working to their requirements.

As it stands right now, I think it would be a very hard sale. Sorry.

I bought a very similar domain around 5 years back, and from memory we paid £300 to the owner, private sale.

A friend of mine sold his domain, complete with a small stock and fully built website (USA model cars, approx 30 items) for a little over £3K a couple of years back. Seemed like a lot at the time.

Having a high google ranking for 'Evo Spares' is all well and good, but who is likely to type 'Evo Spares' into google, more likely it would be 'Evo clutch', 'Evo brake pads' etc and without any products on the site, the Googlebot isnt going to be listing you for those.

At the end of the day its worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it, I'd agree with the earlier post - best approach would be to contact existing Evo part dealers.

Neil

Why not try it on ebay to test the market, put it under one of the Mitsubisihi or evo section and list it as an evo domain name or whatever you think is sutable to put in the title. Just put a reserve on it, its a cheap way to find out possible interest.

Thanks for the replies guys.

My question was more of a request for info -which I received & am grateful for.

Bodgit - I agree. I think the name & site could be useful to the right buyer.

RichB - Thanks for the feedback re: OSCommerce. It is a basic install - as you guessed & I did take the easy route with the install. However, a good couple of days work & it's ready to go.

NeilT - Thanks for the info. I've had a good deal of emails requesting parts from the site - which I can not supply, so the site is obviously working.

It's not a big job to set the shop live & have it spidered & ready to sell.

If a buyer came along, I'd obviously, take the time to build & populate the shop & make things work as they should.

But at present, that's not my main concern.

I see you have an OSCommerce site. May I ask how you find it on an everyday basis?

Borat - Good idea.

Thanks.

Dean
