Default Norton Internet Security

My Acer Aspire Laptop came installed with Norton Internet Security which has ran OK for a year now. However, they now want £39.99 in order to continue the subscription to provide updates.

Obviously, at this point I am looking to uninstall the Norton and replace with another reputable good Antivirus/Firewall application.

Question is, what software to go for? Also, how do I completely remove traces of Symantec/Norton software.

Cheers for any help?

Kaspersky Internet Security, in download format. Buy it off their site and use the code WHSMITH and it's £15.04, and that's for a year of top notch protection.

Going to buy it soon myself, but with 2 years subscription for £22.86 - awesome!

This is A Rated in the PC Pro mag, a complete steal at that price!

Oh btw, to remove Norton, download the Norton Removal Tool off their site. Run it, job done.

Why buy, just use Avast AV fantastic product and its free... generally get 9\10's in all Av reviews. can't go wrong really... I've had it and so has most of my mates for over 4 years and I've never had a problem... Just to check also I've run a my very expensive Trend AV that i use on the works pc's over mine and mates pc's and there always clean. You can run trend house call every now and then and see yourself.
Top product and I really can't fault it...

AVG and Avast are free

Nod32 and Kaspersky well respected.

Whatever you choose, dump norton, burn any install media and never even think of it again. It's the devils spawn.

When I removed Norton IS from my PC I couldn't install my new security software afterwards. I ended up ringing Symantec support and they sent me links to 3 download tools and instructions on how to remove it completely. I think some traces get left in the registry and need cleaning up.

BTW Consider using both Adaware 2007 and Spybot and Destroy (both free downloads) in conjunction with whatever IS you decide to go with, you would be suprised how much stuff these things pick up after Norton IS 2008, McAfee, AVG and Kaspersky (i'm running all 4 on different PC's at the moment) let through.

Kaspersky £29.99 3 user @ PC World at the moment.

NOD32 is supposed to be very good.

HTH

I agree with AVG, spybot and basically anything else you can download !!

I ran pest patrol, spybot and ad-aware at one point and each one would find something else !!
