Default can you run Office 2003 and 2007 together ?

Currently using office 2007, but a customer uses 2003 and I need to install it on my machine.

Is it possible to have both versions together on the same desktop , so to speak ?

There's only one way to find out

When office installs it creates a folder called Office10 or Office11 etc depending on version so the .exe's won't be a problem, however I don't know if the shared dll stuff would conflict.

Information about using 2007 Office suites and programs on a computer that is running another version of Office

Well, you can also use Microsoft's Virtual Machine.

(although as I work with VMWare, you should of course use that )

There is a problem if you are wanting to share 2007 format files with previous versions of Office programs.

You can get round it by using 'file/save as' and selecting the older style file format, or updating the older Office products with the Compatability pack

Download details: Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats

Yes, but you can only have one version of Outlook installed. The installer will delete/migrate the older version.

When is VMwar server 2 going to come out of Beta so all the debugging can be removed to get it running at a reasonable speed

Also a pain moving to Tomcat and web services, the small application was better and didnt use as much resources

No, I don't have time unfortunately. I work for VMware's parent company, so I don't get directly involved and I had my 'jolly' to Monaco for a week late last year.

Another way of doing this is to use something like Altiris' SVS Software Management and Application Management Software Virtualization Solution - Altiris, Inc.

It's downloadable free for personal use and the idea is that you install various progs into discreet layers; totally independent from each other. These layers can be activated/deactivated as required. I've used it myself for running different versions of access and, more recently, for 2 different versions of IBM Storage Manager.

nice one - I'll check this out.

I do love VMWare though - gets the job done very well. I've got Outlook 2003 up and running on it no bother. First time I've used VMWare since I got my Quad Core, and it runs VERY nicely.

VMware is a great solution (says he with his VMware hat on ) BUT don't forget that you'll need a license for the virtualised OS. If you have VLKs for your OSs go for your life. One thing with SVS though is kinda related. AFAIK, if you're using SVS in an enterprise, licensing is still a bit of a grey area.

IMO VMWare is better suited when the host OS causes the incompatibilities, not so much the apps IYSWIM
