Default ISP What utter b*lls*it

Had my follow up call from tiscali today, not bad really i suppose, considering it was due on thursday!

They were full of "how are you's" and nicety, trying to make there **** up seem minor...

She asked if i had got my internet back (which i allready knew, i had) and asked me what i thought, to which i replied "crap" as the speed isnt as good as i used to get (1mb)

The poor girl proclaimed loudly how they had "analysed my line and could offer me a 512k conection". I asked her why 512k when i had a 1mb connection previously? she then went on to say 1mb wouldnt be stable, to which i replied, "how would you know if i havnt had an internet connection" ! She then tried to claim that the 512k was a new line, and had enhanced web features and sensitivity. I told her the only feature i wanted was the 1mb connection i previousley had. She then tried to say that i couldnt get a 1mb connection, to which i told her yes i could, because they upgraded me a year previously.... she then said 1mb wouldnt be a stable connection. but if i wanted to go back to the old line they could do that. I called her bluff, and told her to put me back to 1mb, if it didnt work, then i could always drop back to 512..

guess what 1mb no probs....

then she tried to get me to pay for it. as her records only show a 512 connection, to which i again shot her down, asking why i was paying over the odds for my new 1mb connection which should only be 12.99 a month, and they had been billing me for 15.99 per month.....

total silence.

she then tried to get a 1mb upgrade done online,

guess what no 1mb data packages available, only 1mb with free calls for weekends.. so she then tried to find a way out, claiming that i couldnt have that as i made no calls, i said thats fine, i,ll take it for the cheaper access price... she then said only billing could do that and they dont work sundays, she then went on to say you pay more for slower connection speeds, thats why i was paying so much, so i asked to to upgrade me. Again she got confused and passed me onto billing.

Now ive had another look, and according to there site, i can upgrade to a 2mb connection for the same price as i,m paying now.

now i know i had a 2mb connection as the router was showing this last week, but i couldnt connect. ( problems at the exchange) so do i go for a reduction in fee,s or try the offered 2mb upgrade

I just pay a lot and use Zen.

Very low latency, which is important if you play games. In 6 months we have had total downtime of 15 mins, on only one occasion which as about 1am on a Sat night.

Sorted, great service, but expensive...and no I am not saying how much. I will let you look it up if you are interested.

I was not going to say, cos ppl always laugh and tell me that theirs is free, or that they only pay £12 or whatever. I've had enough people prod fun at me over my ISP decision.

dude Zen was a very good decision, all that free broadband is fine for the occasional net use but utter crap at everything else. You get what you pay for and adslguide would reflect zen is one of if not the best at the moment along with IDnet, im with Zen and get 8 IP addresses, no traffic shaping, great pings, 830k/sec off peak and 50 gig useage. Free ones have low speed, abysmal routing, constant dropouts, allow you to download 1k before you get a warning email etc etc the list goes on

Zen looks quite good! I'm with Pipex, again not the cheapest but the service is top notch!

Hello

I use Zen, so no fun-poking from me. They offer great service and I haven't had a problem with them in 4 years.

Steve

(it's £34.99 a month by the way )

10mb blueyonder. Uncapped. £35. Rarely get 10mb download though. Have achieved around 1500kbps on the odd occassion. Support is terrible. On average down about once a month, usually not longer than 2 days. mux kippered itself last year that meant about 3 days out whilst new amp was fitted.

I use Freedom2surf. Uptime has been very good over the last two years. I pay £19.99 for 20GB which is adequate. I am looking to change because technical support is very poor and can rarely answer any questions put to them.

I asked them about upgrading their MySQL versions and PHP as they're running very old versions, what a waste of a question.

i am with NTLWORLD. 10meg connection unlimited for £34.99 per month. Using newsgroups or torrents i regularly get 1.2Mbps solid for days on end. Had to change my modem for one of the new ntl250s as the silver one just kept falling over. I have no complaints about NTL (which may seem odd) as they have always been helpful when i have contacted them and always resolved my problem.
