XBox360 Shortages Soon To Be Over
During his DICE session, Peter Moore touched on some key Xbox 360 issues such as shortages and Xbox Live.
Regarding shortages, he said, "Within the next four to six weeks, anybody will be able to walk into a store and buy an Xbox 360."
He defended the company's decision to launch the Xbox 360 in three territories. "Was it controversial? Yes. But it's what we needed to do to bring next-gen gaming to a global audience. There have been short-term shortages, but we're driving a clear advantage as we go forward. It was the right decision."
Good news for those struggling to get hold of a Premium Edition XBox360
Plus some interesting XBox Live comments . . .
Moore also reiterated some previously released Xbox Live stats: 54 percent of Xbox 360 owners use Xbox Live, compared to 10 percent for the original Xbox.
"Our goal is to maintain that all the way through XBox 360's life-cycle."
He said there have been 4 million pieces of content downloaded from Xbox Live since launch.
He talked about Xbox Live Arcade and the success of the try-before-you-buy model. He used the example of Geometry Wars (pictured), for which 36 percent of consumers who downloaded the demo bought the game. The average Xbox Live Arcade conversion is 20 percent, with the lowest conversion rate for a game being 10 percent.
"Nothing normally converts from sample to purchase at a rate of 35 percent. It's proof positive that we are dragging gaming into the online era."
He described Xbox live arcade as "The Sundance of independent games."
To date there have been 2 million Xbox Live Arcade downloads.

Dunk/anyone, the one thing I want to know is can the backward compatable games be played on live with the 360? IE can I play Forza online on the 360? Also did I hear right that Live is free some times during the week through a Silver account?
Another question - is there a 360 version of Pro Evo and Forza coming out soon (as these are the two games I play most now) and if so when as i'm not interested in the current games available apart from just PGR3 and Fifa as poor substitutes for Pro Evo and Forza?
And one other, can the 360 be used with a monitor and if so is that as good quality as having an HDTV?
If they become readily available and the games I have mentioned come out I may be tempted to get one.

Hello Bob,
Yes, you can play your compatible XBox ganes on the 360 on Xbox Live, Forza being one of those compatible games. Not heard of the freebie sessions, but you do get 1 month free Gold membership with the 360.
You can use it with a monitor. Using the VGA cable would be best and the picture would be as good as a HDTV provided it supports the required resolutions
360 game release dates are pretty sketchy at the moment for most future games and they tend to only give dates when they are sure the games are ready. I'd certainly give Fifa 06 a miss until a real football game comes out, but PGR3 is certainly no poor relation to any game IMO, its great !

Hi Dunk, cheers for that info mate When I say freebie I thought thats what the silver package is where it only allows you to play it at a certain time wher as Gold which you pay for is full access to Live?
What resolution does the monitor need to support? I have a 21" CRT which does some pretty high resolutions so should be ok?
The Fifa I played was the road to the world cup and I quite enjoyed it although it was no pro evo. I played PGR3 as well and that was ok but preferred Forza.

No doubt MS will dangle a carrot and offer some free online time to Silver users to tempt them it at some point

Cheers Dunk for that link. I got it wrong about the silver package as thats different to what I thought it was. The resolution is fine on my monitor then as its currently on 1600x1200 so will be easily good enough for the 360 and means no need for a ridiculously expensive TV Now just need to wait for Pro Evo to be released for the 360.

I went for the ridiculously expensive Projector option fighting zee germans on a 12ft screen is pant wetting to say the least. PGR3 is almost life size.
As for the shortage I've now bought two fro my local Game by walking in and asking. 1 core 1 premium because I'm too lazy to take it downstairs for those can't be bothered with a huge screen moments
