S-ATA drives.....
I'm still using my old 7200 rpm IDE h/drives at the moment but as my K8V supports S-ATA, would there be any noticeable difference if I put in a S-ATA drive?
What about If I was to put in two S-ATA in a RAID 0 config?

link there to previous thread. Interesting posts on there with regard to RAID 0 configs
SATA wont give much improvement from IDE. To be honest on mine it did seem a bit faster though
edited to add a western digital raptor drive should give an improvement.............not cheap though

I got a speed increase when moving from a couple of IBM deathstars to some maxtor SATA's.
Wether the inrease was down to the disk or the connection media I don't know - but it was certainly faster.
SATA is an improvement over IDE - but not that significant.
It runs a bit quicker & a lot cooler.

SATA drives transfer data at 150 Mbps, and ATA133 transfers at 133Mbps so there wouldn't be much difference. SATA II on the other hand can transfer up to 300 Mbps so would probably see a bigger performance increase.
Western Digital Raptor drives spin faster at about 10000rpms so they would give a noticable performance increase but I think they're limited on capacity.

Does anyone here have a SATA II setup ? I'm in the process of building my next machine and the mobo has a SATA II slot so I've ordered a Maxtor SATAII HDD with 16Mb cache. Big difference from ATA133 ?
