Default PC Bits and Bobs - Peeps advice in the know

Hi Folks,

Looking at upgrading my PC.

Looking at new MB, CPU, MEMORY, HARD DRIVE and GRAPHICS CARD.

Looking at building one based around the 3.2ghz AMD. Any advice on Hard Drive (was looking at S-ATA IBM drive), MB and Grapahics Card (currently running a Radeon 9500).

Options?

Cheers,
Shaun.

if you gonna upgrade to all those goodies, you probably need to upgrade the PSU as well. so you will only be using the original floppy disk? and cdrom drive? and the case?

you might want to get a whole new base unit with the same spec. "might" work out cheaper.

Already using a 550 PSU and a £200 alloy (6 fanned) case.

Regards,
Shaun.

1) Do not buy IBM drives. I don't know about SATA drives, but not for nothing are the PATA ones known as "Deathstars". Maxtor or Western Digital would be my advice.

2) 32-bit or 64-bit 3200 CPU? Either way, the only boards worth buying are Abit, Asus, DFI, Epox and MSI. Maybe Soltek if pushed. If 32-bit get the nForce2 chipset, if 64-bit then go with VIA K8T800 chipset.

3) How much do you game, and how much money do you have? Radeon 9800pro is still a good bang for the buck, but the fastest out there is currently the nVidia 6800Ultra. But you'll pay £350+ for one.
