Default Help uninstalling software

Hi all ,

Got a copy of Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 that I've just tried to install, but it went wrong, no problem I thought, I'll just uninstall using the "add/remove programs" feature in settings. All appeared to be well. Put the CD back in, but now it won't recognise that it needs to re-install, offering me only the play game (which obviously doesn't work), release notes or exit options.

Tried running the Installation exe file direct from exploring the CD, but it seems to want to try and un-install the game all over again -theres nothing to uninstall though! Stalemate!

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Regrettably, yes I have and it didnt' work. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

The problem is, no matter how many time I delete it, it seems to remain in the "add/remove programs" list, so obviously there is something remining which the CD is detecting and hence offering me the play menu rather than the install one.

Any ther suggestions?

It may have left something like a key in the registry

You could try searching in there and deleting it

I would suggest you make a copy of the registy first thought

Try a registry cleaning tool like jv16 power tools (30 day trial) or CleanMyPC Registry Cleaner (15 day trial) to eliminate the leftover bits, then try a re-install.

Be VERY careful if you start messing about in the registry, even backing up your registry (which you should always do) isnt foolproof and I have had PC's which have had to be reformatted before after wayward registry editing.

Great advice, tried it, thought I'd got it- it found a file related to RCT 2 that wasn't needed, rebooted, plut the CD back in and ARGH!!!!! It still thinks the game is installed and is only offering the "play game menu"!!

What more can I do? It's sooo irritating!!

Thanks for any additional help in advance.

Just a thought, but do you have auto insert notification on on the CD drive ? Maybe the game disc is just auto-playing the menu to play the game ? Look on the cd for setup.exe and run that to re-install

Update: problem sorted using thesoftware manager feature of the jv16 power tools. Highly recommended!

Thanks to MJW and the rest of you for all your help. Much appreciated.
