Default VPN software

Im looking for a decent VPN solution for one of our customers, is a software only solution good enough or should I be looking at a combined hardware/software solution, what would say £500 get me?

Cheers

Gary

Gary - how many users are we talking about? Is this site-to-site or remote users accessing a central site? What levels of encryption are they happy using?

Site to site Chris, needs to be secure as any company network is, normal business data not highly critical and sensitive.

Cheers

If you've got some old hardware lying around and want to do a proof-of-concept, you could build two m0n0wall boxes. Here's their quick & dirty IPsec guide. To be honest, I don't think £500 is going to stretch very far in the world of enterprise class VPN terminators and endpoints unless you bag some used Cisco gear from eBay, although I do like to be proved wrong

SonicWALL, Netscreen, Cisco PIX etc etc....take your pick...

Might be able to do something at £500 per end with SonicWALL but £500 all in isn't very much at all.

Have a look at the Shiva 500. Should squeeze a pair of them in for £500.

Eicon have lent me one for a couple of weeks - should get round to plugging it tonight.
