Default PS2 GT4 Disk Read Error.

Hi Guys,

Just borrowed a PS2 from a friend, hired GT4 from Blockbuster, got it home last night played fine. Just switched it on this evening, and it says disc read error. Tried Grand Theft Auto SA, that works fine. Just GT4 that won't run.

Zipped around to BB and exchanged disc for new one, same deal?

Any ideas?

Nick

PS: THis always happens when you borrow something doesn't it!

Seems to be a problem with GT4, my first didnt work at all and the replacement is erratic to say the least, dual layer disk, seems to be a bit more fussy.

Apparently GT4 is prone to dirty lasers in the DVD drive - you're probably in need of a lense cleaner. I've heard of others with the same symptoms and this was the fix.

Thanks guys, I think the dirty lazer sounds quite likely, it's a pretty dirty PS, but I wanted to check GT4, we got it to run enough to know it's well worth buying one, and logitec steeringwheel a mate bought around last night

Was a real pain though, would take loads of attempts to load, and then it would play for maybe one race then get stuck, and you'd need to keep pressing eject till it recognised the disk.

PS2 slim on shopping list.

Cheers for help guys, much appreciated.

Is the PS2 you borrowed chipped?

Another likely reason.

No - standard, but it was pretty grubby, the air vents quite clogged up with dust, so dust or dirt would be quite likely. However, the bloke at Blockbusters said it's a regular complaint....

My playstation just did this! Fingers crossed it's an isolated event, it'll go through the window if it crashes during or after a long event.

Well I get this copy to run (occationally), but at the end of a race, (before it's written to memory), the white clock that indicates it's loading, goes red and it gets stuck. Then I switch off to reboot PS2, and it then won't read the disc. After about 10 mins of opening and closing the tray, switching it off, screaming, breaking things it works and repeats above.

I'm gonna give this back to the owner before something really goes wrong with it, like I throw it out of the window in a childish rage. I hate random things like this, so annoying, anytime I race or even set a lap time it crashes and looses the data, so I can't really do anything with the game apart from time trials.

I wonder if this is the case with the slim ones? Do they use the same drives/optics? At least you'll know it's clean with a new one! Selling them in Dixons for £120 with GT4 and another game to boot.

Cheers for feedback,

Nick
