Default E-commerce website - how much

For a relatively 'basic' site from scratch or would it be better to buy one "off the shelf" ?

Hi mate, I think I'm just down the road from you (Tunbridge Wells to Edenbridge) and am just starting a e-commerce company strangely enough...

PM me if you fancy a chat (send me your number if you want and we'll have a proper chat) but for my tupenceworth I'd say buy 'off the shelf' for a smallish site (less than 250 products) - they are highly tried and tested, reliable, cheaper and can integrate with all the banking systems and secure server pages etc.

Russboy - I've seen what looks like a good deal with oneandone.co.uk - £9.99 per month.

BTW Spoon - I'm trying to find something to fill my time and make a few bob so I dont care what it is (within reason).

Chris- I'd figured that out by the amount of different thread title posts you've started, hence my suggestion about doing something you'd be comfortable with.

I'd consider selling BBQ's....£1399!! Nice site though Sti555...

Scooby96 - the oneanddone site looks ok and certainly quite good if it's a short term thing or if you're unsure how it'll pan out. Anything which runs over say 2 years may be more worthwhile with a decent off the shelf jobbie.

As it wont be the "b and end all" I'd rather progress more cautiously re start up costs although the parents have expressed an interest to invest - not something I want them to do until I'm confident its a winner.
