E-commerce website - how much

For a relatively 'basic' site from scratch or would it be better to buy one "off the shelf" ?

Spoon 06 April 2004 05:36 PM

Another idea!

Chris- Have you thought about being a male escort?

Hi mate, I think I'm just down the road from you (Tunbridge Wells to Edenbridge) and am just starting a e-commerce company strangely enough...

PM me if you fancy a chat (send me your number if you want and we'll have a proper chat) but for my tupenceworth I'd say buy 'off the shelf' for a smallish site (less than 250 products) - they are highly tried and tested, reliable, cheaper and can integrate with all the banking systems and secure server pages etc.

Spoon - yep, awaiting the applciation form!

Scooby96 06 April 2004 05:40 PM

Russboy - I've seen what looks like a good deal with oneandone.co.uk - £9.99 per month.

BTW Spoon - I'm trying to find something to fill my time and make a few bob so I dont care what it is (within reason).

Scooby96,

I can also sort you out with an e-commerce site..

SSL, Paypal, Credit/debit cards, ASP/access 2000 driven, web interface, reports, customer mailer etc etc

With a very fast turnaround

example site

www.stapeleybbq.com

PM or email me if you need more info

Chris- I'd figured that out by the amount of different thread title posts you've started, hence my suggestion about doing something you'd be comfortable with. ;)

Scooby96 06 April 2004 06:07 PM

There havent been that many threads have there?

Driving instructor, website idea (which is related to the wholesale thingy), plumbing (which I'm gonna carry on doing alongside an 'idea'), anymore?

Scooby96 06 April 2004 06:14 PM

Russ and sti - YHPM

RussBoy 06 April 2004 06:19 PM

I'd consider selling BBQ's....£1399!! Nice site though Sti555...;)

Scooby96 - the oneanddone site looks ok and certainly quite good if it's a short term thing or if you're unsure how it'll pan out. Anything which runs over say 2 years may be more worthwhile with a decent off the shelf jobbie.

Also need some advice on site promotion, meta tagging, spiders etc etc

Not interested in pay per clicks really.

For promotion tips checkout some of these sites
www.sitepoint.com
www.sitepointforums.com
www.searchengineforums.com
www.webmaster-talk.com
There are hundreds of great sites out there and some very usefull forums (posted the 3 which I use most)

Cheers Russ :D

From £44.99 though ;) lol!

As it wont be the "b and end all" I'd rather progress more cautiously re start up costs although the parents have expressed an interest to invest - not something I want them to do until I'm confident its a winner.
