Unhappy

I think my brothers xbox laser is about to die.

Its about 3 years old and it struggles to read games and DVD's. Its very intermittent , sometimes it works, others it does not. The whole Xbox just hangs and requires a reset. There is no common task that causes it to crash, it just does it when it feels like it.

Is this fixable or does it mean buying a new xbox? Are replacement lasers an option, can you clean lasers?

Thanks

Darren

I'm sure you would be able to pick up a new DVD drive quite easily for it.

Plenty on ebay if you need one, but try cleaning it with a normal DVD player cleaner first.

This may sound daft but get him to give Microsoft Xbox services a ring, he may find theyll fix it for free (asuming its NOT modded).

I've heard that MS realize that the are problems with some of the lazers in early(launch) consoles and give out free repairs.

Gotta be worth a phone call.

STi wanna Subaru - Are PC dvd drives the same as xbox drives?

DJ Dunk - I'll get him to give it a bash.

Wizzbang - If the above does not work I'll get him to call them as he has not modded it.
