Need to backup DVD's
#1
After an unfortunate incident with my fave DVD, I would like to ask for recommendations on a software package that will copy my DVD's.
My set-up includes a DVD rom and seperate DVD writer if that makes a difference.
Please advise?
What are the pitfalls with burning DVD's?

Unfortunately, unlike other media, under the Copyrights Act, it is illegal to copy a DVD. This includes 'backup' of personal DVDs. There is no provision whatsoever for the copying of a commercial DVD for any purpose.
So just to keep the thread abover board, would it be a home movie from your camcorder you are talking about?
Geezer

Apparently so. I read it in ana rticle on DVD burning, and then asked my brother, who is a Trading Standards officer, who confirmed it. Strange that they changed the act like that.

Geezer,
Backing up any media is, strictly speaking, illegal. There is no UK law of fair use. End of story.
What I think you're referring to is the new EU-DCMA which makes it a criminal offense to circumvent a copy protection scheme. And yes, backing up your DVDs does just this.
Hand yourself in now...
More seriously, I will defend what I see as my right to use stuff that I have legitimately bought. This is my own personal view, not the view of scoobynet.
Cheers,
Nick.
