Interesting question.
I'm trying to get this info from a few people.
I dont have any import games, so a chip to play backup/imports does not bother me too much, however I do have quite a few region 1 DVDs which the UK ps2 won't play.
So there are two issues here, mod chip for games and mod chip for DVDs (or do they use the same chip?)
from what I've seen so far, no one has managed to chip the PS2 for DVD, and I'm not sure they have done it for games yet either.
If I get anymore info I'll let you know.

There are currently two types of modchip for the psx2.
one has 8 wires which just works on psx2 games only.
and an 11 wire one that works on psx2 and psx1 games.
there is not one to do dvd YET.
