Private website : Hosting recomendations?
#1
Looking to change hosts and would like to hear about your experiences -
Our private site has been hosted by uk2net.co.uk for the last 3 years. No complaints about performance and reliability, but they do not support domain name e-mail accounts for outgoing mail.
Having moved country three times in the last 10 years, I do not want to be reliant upon country specific e-mail hosts or for that matter the sh*t that is Hotmail.
So what I'm after is a package that offers:
100Mb+ webspace
1Gb+ per month traffic
POP3 e-mail account under the domain name, with webmail
unlimited ftp, cgi scripts
Looked at oneandone.co.uk and find their 'home package' offering ok, but the price of GBP 225 for 2 years hosting is way too steep for a non-commercial site, especially compared to the 78 quid that our current host wants for 2yr renewal.
Anyone got any recommendations?
Thanks
Suresh

I'm using hostplus at the moment. Seems fine, techies answer the phone, support tickets get answered, although admin interface is a little 'clunky'.

Moving host update, if anyone is interested.
It has been an extremely smooth changeover from uk2net to hostplus.
Got almost instantaneous access to my new directories on Hostplus'server. FTP'd my website up to the new host without any problems on Saturday ready for the change over.
Updated new DNS nameservers via domain registrar website on Sunday and changes fed through to local nameservers here in Holland this morning. I am up and running on the new host!
Configured the webmail accounts this evening and I can now send and receive messages under my own domain name. Slight problem with webmail configuration was answered by an email from support at 20-30 uk time this evening. Response seemed to be from a person and not a bot. Problem solved and customer now totally satisfied!
Extremely pleased. Good work Hostplus!
(now i've typed this it'll probably go completely ****-up )
