The gearbox is only just getting a bit worn and is the original to the car. The other is running 490bhp at the wheels with another 100+ shot of nitrous on a standard T5 box. His usually last about 12 to 18 months. Both cars get abused at Santa Pod regularly.
Wow!
490atw thats about 570 fly & then 100+ Nitrous , close to 700bhp then & all through a T5 box thats abused at the Pod. Must know the car as I know most Cossies with 650+bhp whats the owners name.
Paul to get back to reality, looks like a good buy but beware, use it as Standard to see if its engine is robust enough to take even a stage 1 chip. It was sold for 2k for a reason.

I think I lied slightly about the box on that particular car!!!! The car is getting ready for another T5 box soon Rod. It's only been in since spring this year and it's starting to get notchy. He daren't use the slicks again until he can sort out a stronger diff.

I am quite sure you know him Rod. His name is Lee Catermole AKA TiB . The 490atw was on a Dyno Dynamics rolling road if I recall correctly although how accurate it is I don't know.

I will be using it as it as for a while Rod but so far all the signs and guages look healthy. I need to service it etc.

It didn't have a dash or alarm/immobiliser and stuff so that is why it was priced as it was. All of these things are pretty much done now though and the dash went back in tonight

It was a shame to see you leave passionford

Old skool classic fella. Love it.

My cousin had a RWD Cossie Saph and then bought a Escort Monte years ago.

I've never had one but have thought about for feeling it.

Enjoy

TiB can certainly launch a car - not surprised his gearbox and diff are feeling the strain too!

Yep !! a genuine fast car was with him at Woodbridge last week. His Topspeed suggests he has rather less Power than you suggest, however old 'twinkle-toes' can really get that car off the line & has run a 11.43 @ 131 if I remember correctly a rwd record. . Hes a Top guy !!!

Rod, power is irrelevant when he was on the limiter on a 3.9:1 diff. His limiter is set at 7800RPM. No amount of extra power will make the car go faster at the top end!!!! I think the 1/4 mile terminal speed is a good indication of how powerful the car is.

With gas he hit the limiter in 5th within 0.7 of a mile which was 173mph. Without gas he hit the limter in 0.9 of a mile, again at 173mph.

He is currently thinking about going back to a 3.62:1 diff.

Point taken, with circa 720bhp mine did a 11.52 @ 138.7mph terminal, on 210mph gearing.

So he can't be too far off the 490 at the wheels off gas then. We (every one who knows him) recon it's definately over the 600 @ flywheel mark on gas but no idea what it might actually be.

He has a couple of more modifications planned for the new year so we will see how they work out.

MOT day today and it passed So far it's been so much fun to drive, it's more fun to drive than my old Legacy but it has scared me a few times Rear wheel drive rocks!

I've got to respray the front bumper over the weekend then I'll take some photos of how it looks now.

As requested

I've now owned many old cars including a Subaru Legacy turbo but this is still amazing in my opinion. It's been off the road more than it's been on it due to the fact that I won't drive it even if there might be anything remotely wrong but when I do drive it, it blows my old Legacy and my sister's Impreza away and it's comparable to my friends Evo 6!

I must admit though that's mostly down to the fact that I had it live mapped at stage 1+ (the NMS gunship) so it still appears standard (not for insurance!) but it's now pushing over 300lbft (should be 320lbft) and close to that in bhp (290bhp) for £350 Sadly 2-3 days later an engine noise appeared so I took it off the road That was diagnosed to be a stuck lifter which proved to be correct.

A couple of weeks ago we repaired the car & I drove it work today for the first time since it was mapped and it was amazing, it spins up the rear wheels in 1st, 2nd & 3rd and that's with me taking it easy

All in all so sum up I am so happy with the car and the move, I've driven the car on a long journey and I found it more comfortable to my sister's wrx but I put that down to the fact that it's based on a basic Sierra

What I did forget though when I bought it was that it's still a Ford

Nice to see you're still enjoying the Cossie Paul.

My Cavalier Turbo developed an engine rattle (suspected stuck lifter also funnily enough) but i plan to do a half decent restoration on it so i've taken it off the road and bought a 205 GTi. I can sense a Cossie like yours isn't more than a few years away once i'm done with the Pug.

Keep the updates coming.

Thanks Carl First time I'd every heard of a stuck lifter when someone suggested it but it was making an awful noise The old lifter has a nice dent in the top of it from where the cam had been punching into it

I'd forgotten that back in March before I had it mapped I refurbished one of my spare sets of wheels.

That is the best photo I have at the moment because it's been in my garage since then and it's covered in crap When I wash it I'll get some better photos. I've also got a replacement passenger door to go on and I'm still looking out for a replacement drivers door but if I don't find one I'll have to repair my one.
