i did 12000 miles on the block and no heat issues or liners splitting etc.
i'm currently having one built by ASPerformance.

2.5 closed deck block
79mm nitrided crank
corrillo rods
mahle race pistons
acl bearings
big port spec c heads(further porting carried out)
supertech valves springs retainer
bronze valve guides
ASP 14mm headstuds
GSC 272 cams
RCM head gaskets
rcm vernier pulleys
rcm 11mm oil pump
owens motorsport HTA GT3582 turbo with TIAL V-Band
deatschwerks 1300cc injectors
AEM meth injection kit
Syvecs ECU with toucan and most optional sensors available
Swirl pot
zen performance dry sump kit
simpsons exhaust custom 3 inch straight through
spec c rotated inlet
perrin FMIC
RCM large cone filter
aeromotive a1000 fuel pump
ASP billet fuel rails
and alot more.

and i'm pretty confident the 2.5 CDB will see 650+ bhp with out any issue.

What pistons was in when it they failed?

Was the cylinder walls standard or did you have sleeves in?

Nice by the way

The basic mahle pistons ..... the cause of them failing was due to me using anti lag for a very long period. I was showing off which was a mistake as over all the set up was perfect for a road car cylinder walls were standard .. the whole point of the closed deck insert is to support the liners from distorting and splitting. I know of a few others running 2.5 closed deck blocks from asperforman running mid 600's with no issues.

If its a fast road/odd track day car go for the 2.5 cdb

For hardcore track days 2.35

Thanks

I myself have a forged 2.5.. However after reading posts like yours I kick myself each and every time for not getting the block closed or 14mm studs.. I'm currently at the accepted limit of the semi closed block

Car is fast road/track, your feedback is exactly what I wanted to hear. 2.5 CDB it is.

Cheers 👍🏻

what sort of power are you running at the moment?

What internals do you have?

if you have decent internals it won't be too expensive of a job to have it closed decked and converted to 14mm

A 2.5 in a CDB format is a brilliant road set up.

I was considering a 3.6 flat 6 .... however the cost in having everything custom made to suit isn't cheap. Im sure Andy F will agree your looking around 35+k mark if you want serious power out of it.

Don't start me thinking like that!!!

Currently at 448/455..

What you think the price would be to strip it down.. Machine for 14mm studs.. Close the block then refit using existing forged parts.... It's got to be around 2 grand surely??

best to speak to Alyn at AS performance i think cdb insert and 14mm conversion plus studs would be around the 1000 pound mark .... so quite possibly 2k mark but in my eyes is worth every penny

biggest issue is that all the combinations have there downsides, the well regarded 2.35 has been found to have some issues and people are moving away from it in some cases.

Suppose really it's what comes of trying to run engines 4 or 5 times more power than they were ever designed for

could you at least clarify if you were talking about a 2.2 stroked or a 2.5 de-stroked to 2.35?

The well regarded in my eyes, would imply it is the EJ22 stroked to 2.35 using the 79mm crank
