Default Best built subaru engine??

Which is the strongest most reliable subaru engine? I'm looking at buying a full car with a 2.1, 2.2 or 2.35 litre engine, in wondering when built up which is besr and reasons why. Failing that, what can a built 2.5 produce?

I'm sure this has been done before but I can't find it, when mated with a gt35 turbo which would people recommend.

2.35, had one with a billet GT35R was a beast

That's a 2.1, called a 2.2 because it sounds nice and fancy. However with a billet GT30 with a 0.62 makes an excellent road car will be a little laggy with a GT35

At that point at curbs it was on a standard twin scroll sump, the baffled one came later

WMS can build a 2.1 short block for around that sort of price.

yer obviously that's just a supplied built short block. The heads etc will need skimming and the block fitted, so when you start adding up cost of head bolts, skimming, fitting the engine etc it adds up

I know where there is a brand new fully built CDB 2.1 with baffle plate cossie gaskets and avcs heads, price is under 3k

I've looked into a lined 2.5 for better torque and spool anyone had any problems?

Most engine builders will not reliner a 2.5 block due to the lack of meat in the block. A standard 2.5 block on standard bores with an AS Performance Closed Deck insert will be a good option for most applications.

I've used the ASPerformance 2.5 closed deck block and it's awesome.

the first time i used one i had internals capable of 400 bhp however got a bit power hungry and took it to 480bhp and 507ftlb torque with 20 percent meth on a sc46 turbo and pistons failed.

i did 12000 miles on the block and no heat issues or liners splitting etc.
i'm currently having one built by ASPerformance.

2.5 closed deck block
79mm nitrided crank
corrillo rods
mahle race pistons
acl bearings
big port spec c heads(further porting carried out)
supertech valves springs retainer
bronze valve guides
ASP 14mm headstuds
GSC 272 cams
RCM head gaskets
rcm vernier pulleys
rcm 11mm oil pump
owens motorsport HTA GT3582 turbo with TIAL V-Band
deatschwerks 1300cc injectors
AEM meth injection kit
Syvecs ECU with toucan and most optional sensors available
Swirl pot
zen performance dry sump kit
simpsons exhaust custom 3 inch straight through
spec c rotated inlet
perrin FMIC
RCM large cone filter
aeromotive a1000 fuel pump
ASP billet fuel rails
and alot more.

and i'm pretty confident the 2.5 CDB will see 650+ bhp with out any issue.
