Default Tyres cracking - what does it mean

Guys

My tyres are cracking badly
The cracks are appearing at the tread blocks and the central grooves.

The tyres are 18" Dunlop SP Sport 01
They have only 8K on them, and have not been totally abused either.

how long ago did you buy the tyres?

if they camewith the car then you are well within your rights to take them back and complain about there age.

if you brought them from a tyre company when you brought the car the same applies, hopefully you still have the invoice.

It was a new car purchased in March 2010
Tyre dates appear to be 2008

I'd take the car back and question them on it.

OK Update:
Spoke to dealer, they contacted Goodyear and a rep visited me.
Said tyres shouldn't do that and its definately not a safety issue (pointed out the age of the tyre), so as they are half worn he'd replace half if I did the same.

Not fecking likely!

Back to dealer who then put in claim to Subaru which was promptly rejected!

I lost the rag and rang Subaru directly and complained about said tyres cracking.
Result is 4 new tyres on route from Subaru

Couldn't agree more. They are dangerous if cracked. Get them changed asap!

If the guy from Goodyear specifically said that they are not dangerous though.
Started going on about the tread compound, and various other layers etc etc.

There are no cracks on the sidewalls.

As said before, an MOT station can and will fail your car if there are visible cracks in the tyres. Its a safety issue!

Glad you got sorted. However I can't understand why Goodyear came to look at Dunlop tyres. Are Goodyear part of Dunlop?
