Brakes, where to start?
Brakes are getting due for a change very soon and im debating whether to upgrade them from standard. Car is a standard uk turbo, but ive been thinking about re-maps and that, so id like decent brakes!!
I have no clue about brakes, not something ive ever needed to fiddle with!!!
Where do i start??? Just go with decent pads and discs??
thanks
Ellie

As Ryan said, 2 pots? or do you have 4 pots?
Have a look on the godspeed site www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk as he does some good deals, if your still on the 2 pots then upgrading to the 4 pots is a good idea or even better just go for some k sports though you will need 17 inch wheels to clear them.

hi if your scoob is a t reg it will have 4 pots as standard, you should be able to read the words subaru on the brake calipers if you look through the front wheels ,(ian godney at godspeed brakes )look on post four prodriverules put a link above was selling discs and kevlar pads for about 100 pounds and has good reviews about them too
ps 2 pots means two pistons per brake caliper and 0bviously four pots means four piston ,also the 4 pots have larger 294mm brake discs too.hope it helps

The pots are the slang for the hydraulic pistons in the caliper, the more pistons, or pots, the greater the force applied on the brake pads & the quicker your car comes to a halt.

ohhh right, thanks for explaining that!
Really hope its already got 4pots then, ill have a look in the morning. Sure ive seen Subaru written on it.
Yeah, followed that link and the kevlar ones sound alright. Probably get them.
Why do they have so many blue stuff pads?? The blue stuff ones are a bit OTT for normal driving arent they??

I personally wpuldn't fit EBC, that said, I have redstuff on the back of my car, but they were fitted by the previous owner. I suspect if you do have the Subaru 4 pot calipers & the brakes are dire, your calipers need refubishing, in whech case, Ian Gdney at Godspeed is your best bet, he does refurbished sets on an exhcange basis & is a top guy.

Hi Ellie
With a 1999 car you should have the 4 pot calipers fitted with the subaru logo on the outer face of them , there are loads of choices of pads available to suit all styles of driving , the Kevlar pads you see on our site would suit probably 90% of drivers , they are about a 10% increase in performance over a standard pad , they work perfect from cold , and are quiet in use , but the extra performance would suit the driver who uses the car as an everyday car , and like to drive hard every now and again , we can offer you our grooved discs and kevlar pads for £99 in our current group buy , P&P is £12.50.
The bluestuff pads are more aimed at the harder driver as they will take just about any abuse you can throw at them , I find them about the best all-round pad available currently , they are very good as they work very well from cold , a good performance pad usually has compromises somewhere , be it noisy , dusty or a wooden feeling from cold , I don't find this the case with the bluestuff pads , they just seem to be very good all over.
Obviously the bluestuff pads work out quite a bit more than the kevlar pads , but if you drive hard , or do track days , then the bluestuff's will be more suitable for you.
I have a choice of fitting any brakes I want to in my own cars , and I have the bluestuff .
We are offering the bluestuff pads and grooved discs for £199 plus £12.50 P&P.
I am going to the autosport show today so won't be in work until tomorrow morning now , i'll have a look in here later on my iphone incase anyone want any further info.
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

Thanks a lot Ian, thats really helpful and appreciate that.
Can I have the grooved discs and pads off you please, front and back?
Yes, mine does have the 4pots!
Ill go with the kevlar ones as i dont drive it hard (always pigging stuck behind someone or in traffic) so it probably doesnt justify getting bluestuff just yet!
Thanks very much

ok no problem
yes the rear 2 pot kit makes the car brake flatter , its why they fitted them to the 2 door type R as this was the car built to go rallying , its a good conversion.
What pads have you fitted in the front , pads can make a massive difference to how the car brakes
Cheers Ian

thanks ian. i think there just mintex pads on the front just now and there getting quite low, there just what came with the 4pots when i bought them. before i fit them i had ebc red stuff all round, but brakes were still soft. il try a set of your kevlar pads and see if they make much difference. if not i might try to fit 2pots on the back. ive still got a brake cylinder stopper to fit too if i ever get round to it.

I just fitted this very set to my standard GB270 and am already really pleased with them. Just approaching the 300 mile wearing in phase....
