I was asking the same question 2 weeks ago mine was will 18s scrape? There was a few answers but all different some say 18s will scrape all the time, and others posted me pics of there cars on 18 and lowered 60mm that have never scraped even with a car full then there were other saying that the 18s are a bit of a uncomfortable ride and better stick with 17s, i am still unsure what to get.

I have just ordered my redlines in gold went for 17 inch in the end havent recieved them yet but from past experience with wheels and tyres its best to go up sizes inch by inch rather than 2 inches like from16" straight to 18"
The ride gets harsher the bigger you go and without lowering you tend to get more lean and the 4x4 look e.g. landrover.
there are some wheels and tyre calculators we can use to make sure that we keep the same rolling radius when changing our wheels to ensure we dont throw the speedo out!

Remember some will scrape due to tyre size, offset and if the car has been lowered and how many fat b@stards are in it
General rule of thumb for tyres on classics are 205/45/17 or, more commonly, 215/40/17 and 215/35/18's.
Should not have any issues with the above.

Agree with Richie, I have these wheels on my MY99 classic. I stuck with 17's and have just fitted some Toyo T1R's 215/40/17's and they are fantastic. There are several makes of tyre that are as good or some will say better than the Toyo's. I chose them as they were reasonably priced, £275 inc p+p from Camskill, and they are perfect for my needs (some track and spirited driving). I didn't go for the 18's as I felt these would compromise handling.
