Do all the tyres have to be replaced at the same time?
The tracking on the front of my WRX must be slightly out as its worn the inside edges of the front tyres.
The rears are fine so do i need to replace all the tyres with brand new same make or can i get away with just buying some new ones for the front and leave the rear?

I was going to get the tracking sorted same time i get tyres fitted.
So the AWD system is not sensitive? So doesnt matter if i leave the half worn rears on and put brand new fronts on, which will probably be a differnt make aswell?

I spoke about this to IMG's (Subaru UK) technical dept yesterday and they said that it can cause the diffs to overheat & blow seals in as little as 200 miles, especially on Forresters -- obviously thats worst case
they can tolorate small differences in rolling circumferences but certainly not huge
if you had a warranty claim for a fvcked diff and Subaru discovered you had different makes on, I do not think they would honour the warranty

yes i am afraid it is -- the Diffs have to take up the slack

its just physics if you think about it -- the diffs role is to alow the wheels to turn at different speeds -- this happens naturally in cornering, but when you have different rolling radius's they will turn at different speeds all the time
the diff has to work that much harder -- fact
but as myblackwrx says -- in the real world as long as the difference is not to great it wont make that much difference

Agree with myblackwrx, I've ran my MY99 since 2001. I have used the same make of tyre and rotated front to back and replaced two at a time when needed. I don't know if it makes a difference but I always put new ones on the front when fitting.
