Default Tyre Noise

I bought some second hand wheels not so long back with BCT S800 tyres on.

Iv now fitted them to the car and boy are they noisey, it sounds like wheel bearing humming from about 30mph

Before I had toyo Proxes on and they were fine, (no humming) is this really what you get with cheap tyres?

No R888's are the most expensive Toyo's I know off and they sound like land rover knobblies...

Ive also got this problem, ive just bought a new set of 18's with budget tyres and they are so noisy, (droning sound from 30mph). Could tyre pressure have anything to do with it?

Its mostly about stiffness of sidewalls transmitting noise. See DUNX's comment on R888s, you'd think with the smooth tread that they'd be quiet but the first time I used them there was so much road noise I had to stop after a couple of miles and check the wheels over. Of course this is the last thing you notice on track. At least with a premium tyre (Toyo etc) you get a tyre designed for purpose, cheap tyres are false economy regardless of intended use.

So what do people think are a good quiet tire?? I'm considering selling the car and moving away from subaru's as the tire noise I have at the mo is terrible. And thats after putting in some soundproofing!!
