53WRX has made a good recomendation, a good tyre for sensible money can't go far wrong with those.

When you say 'compare' what exactly do you mean. Visual comparison? Or on the road? I'm guessing you mean the former, but you cant evaluate a tyre by visual inspection.
Toyo T1-R are pretty good and within your budget.
Avons are ok, very hard compound so last ages, nice stiff sidewall. Ultimate grip not up there with the best though.

I have just fitted 18" Inovit alloys fitted to my '03 WRX, with Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta as mentioned above and I'm not impressed!
The standard bridgestones give me more grip and hardly ever herd a peep out of them even on the limit, these babys love to squeal at 60mph!
I've worn them in for over 350 miles+ sideways and they still let go far too soon, especially for the scoob!
I wanted toyo T1-R's, which I've got on my MR2, but couldn't get them till next year, but with peoples ratings off here of these tyres I thought they would do the job at £95 per tyre (225/40/18 @ Mytyres.co.uk ), but I wont be buying again.
Toyo T1-R for me all the way!

I've had 3 sets of Avon ZZ3's before - and was very happy with them. This time I went with Toyo T1-R's - again very good tyre. For the sort of driving I do then I didn't notice that much of a difference.

Well I've bought several sets of Nankangs before and they've all been excellent. They are very popular in Europe too, in fact it was after seeing them on cars in Germany and Austria that I decided to try them out.
First set were winter tyres, and the grip levels were out of this world dry, wet, floods, snow and ice. I purchased them to get me through winter, and I left them on until I wore them out. They lasted from late October to mid August and had done around 25K miles. I replaced them with another set of Nankangs, but not winter ones, and they too were spot on.
Had a set on my wifes Rav4, they were great, gave her better all round grip than the oem's they replaced.
Put a set on my sisters Honda CRV and she too was impressed, found them to be far better than her old Bridgstones.
And my mate has a set on his beemer and raves about how he can corner so much quicker now.
Some people will say "Nankangs are cheap inferior tyres, I wouldn't touch them". But I prefer to make my own mind up.
I've also had Toyo Proxes on my Scoob, and I liked them in the dry, but wet was not brilliant, and they wore out too quickly!!!
Running on Goodyears on present vehicle but almost due for replacement and I'll be going for Nankangs again!

Having recently gone from 225/40 18 T1-R's to GY Asymmetric's, I'm sorry to say the Toyo's are average at best..
They were good in the dry, but absolutely lethal in standing water.. Very 'squirmy' in damp too.
Going over to the GYA's made me realise what a good tyre should be like.
Grip is unbelievable, I don't think I've been able to break traction at all yet, wet or dry (and that's with 350/330)..
Lol, I even gave myself a cricked neck doing full lock circles on a damp car park at around 25mph (2nd gear)..
Put it this way, I'd never fit toyo's to an impreza again.
FWIW I paid £100 a corner fitted (225/40 18's) earlier this year..

Well, if you 'can' return them then do so and try and get something else (GY-A's..), which I recon shouldn't cost you any more and probably less..
The 18" newage/Toyo thing does explain a thing or two, as a LOT of people swear by them. I thought they were OK in the dry, nothing special- just deadly in heavy rain, which we tend to get a bit of here lately..!
